Munster Final

(Oldest Posts First)

I am abit torn on this game, as an Offaly man, I watched Limerick and Waterford, suffer at the hands of Cork in particular in the first half of 1980s, they were the teams who would beat Kilkenny on a wet November day in the old NHL and, as a child you would be delighted for the to beat a team like Kilkenny, even though it was only the League. Limerick won the League in 84 and 85 so they got some silver ware but Waterford were in very dark place back in those times, with some lovely hurlers (Kieran Delahunty I always remember - savage free taker) but just over all a struggling team.

If Kilkenny win against Galway tomorrow, I will probably go for Limerick as I think they will be able to match Kilkenny, not saying Waterford wouldnt be able for Kilkenny, but Kilkenny would rather Waterford I would think...Waterford deserve something out of the las 22 years or so hanging around with some great teams, if they beat Limerick, on Sunday, and go on to win the All Ireland, most will be happy for them...

I think Limerick are ahead of everyone in their day. Last yr was a good learning curve for them and I think they'll be a better team for it. So Limerick for me.
Waterford have a shot to nothing so you never know in a one off game but can't see them laying a glove on Limerick. I think if they get to an AI semi it'll be great progress, can't see any further for them.

From a limerick hurling point of view I think its essential we win tomorrow.
Losing to Kilkenny last year was a real kick and there's a sense of unfinished business about the team this year.
There's a bit more ruthlessness and even greater work ethic to fight for everything.
To Make the all Ireland semi finals 3 years in a row would be phenomenal for a county like limerick..

Waterford have improved enormously under Cahill, he seems to have put fire in the belly again, has them playing with real direction, that said they were never a bad team, just lost their way over the last year or two.

Be interested in seeing how David Reidy plays on Tadhg de Burca?
It's an unusual call and has me questioning who will actually play at 11 for us tomorrow.

From a hurling point of view I genuinely hope Waterford win an all Ireland soon.
Counties like us, wexford, Clare etc need to be challenging at the top table, making life uncomfortable for the aristocrats.

I expect us to win the munster final but we'll have to play to the full of our potential.
I've seen enough of Waterford over the years to know what they're capable of, but just think we're further down the road at the moment.

No disrespect to Tipp they won, but Limerick were the best team last year. Tipp did not have to face the 2017 0r 2018 winners in the final. The Kilkenny game was a misfortunate mistake and in true Kilkenny style you better be on song to beat them. If the lines man was behind the line ball taker he could not but see the projectuary of the ball changing. Probably a referee at that. The umpire was probable watching the posts even though it is his call. Loath to criticize officials but can totally understand Limerick been pissed off. They should have had allowed more discussion on it to make sure they got it right at such a vital stage of the game. It may not have changed their decision. It seems teams below the top ones don't get the breaks and win more. Like Clare, Offaly, Galway, Wexford and our fifties sixties team should have bagged another few All-Ireland's. Let alone the team of the 2000 era winning no one.

I see where you're going with that but Limerick lost 3 out of 6 games last year - the tipp game they rest players but they still lost 2 more and deserved to lose the semi final. Some of the hurling Tipp played throughout the cship last year was ale very but as good as any team have done, past or present.
The best team wins the All Ireland and Tipp deserved it last year.

I think everyone expects limerick to win this one but Cahill has some record at underage hurling particularly with teams that are outsiders. He's new to senior management but I expect Waterford to put in a huge game....provided one particular player doesn't do something stupid.

Tipp are a bit like the Kats. Give them half a chance and they will take it. They beat who they had to last year and I would not bet against them this year either.

I would not go strong. For the past ten years that Cork ye had collapsed when ever the real pressure has come on

Limerick after getting the win and I think honestly they didn't play well..more direct to
Casey and inside line and the game could have been put away..fair play to Waterford, they never packed it in..they will find it very tough next week to bring their game to the same level again, what might do it is a draw against tipp..thought prunty,de burca,Bennett were excellent..most people were not going to under estimate their challange as they have put up to limerick all the way through the different competitions..good position for limerick now to be in the semi, sit back now and watch next week..can I also just mention Cian, another great performance today on a very hard week for him and his family..

Tough battle. Thought we'd come out around 3/4 to the good but was on the edge the whole way through..
Thought Waterford were very good and no one will want to meet them next week.

We lost but I think we are back as a legitimate force. Like I said earlier one or two scoring forwards is the difference. O for a Mullane, Flynn, Big Dan. We have the work horses. Congratulations to Limerick and they showed their experience. The water breaks broke our momentum twice but Limerick were that little bit slicker.

Possibly could've done with Big Maurice coming off the bench...?

Ya you would wonder ? However would the second effort be there like the subs Cahill is bringing in now. I do like Maurice and was probable worth a gamble for his experience. If Shane Fives is injured Noel Connors would be a nice asset. Sources tell me some issues there but rumours I guess should be ignored. Who can second guess Liam Cahill anyway. I am waiting for Pat Curran to explode because he has unbelievable talent. Austin Gleeson though is an enigma. Got a few points today from open play but seems to be caught between two stools. He is either reckless with the challenge or I thought today not going in. I think also he does not know where he belongs. Centre back, half back, centre forward, full forward. We all had too much expectation for him. Grandson of the great John Keane. One thing for sure Cahill has no inhibitions with dealing with him. Is time running out?
