Joe McDonagh Promotion/Relegation

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

This may have been discussed already, but does anyone here know how promotion/relegation between the Joe McDonagh and provincial championships works this year?

From what I've gathered, there's going to be no relegation from the McDonagh cup this year, apparently this years Christy Ring winners are going to be promoted to make it a 6 team competition next year.
But will this years Joe McDonagh winners be promoted to the Leinster championship for 2021? I know there was a motion earlier in the year to have the Leinster championship be 6 teams, but wasn't sure if it was passed

Christy Ring finalists go up to JMcD.

I think it's MacDonagh. Cup winners go up to make 6 in Leinster unless it's Kerry who playoff.

Which is unfair to Kerry btw.

No relegation from Macdonagh and Ring winners come up to make 6 next year.

Kerry actually go into Leinster this year if they win.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a "promote more teams" motion fail to pass in congress, unless it's in competition with other motions to promote more teams.

The winners of JMcD go into next year's LMcC.
Down and Kildare come up in to the JMcD with no relegation form JMcD. unsure what happens in CR or LM cups think those two competitions the remainingteams are split 8 and 6. Number wise that should put 12 teams in LMcC and 6 in JMcD.

Kerry could be playing in Munster Championship soon, but hopefully not at the expense of Antrim. We really need to win this weekend to keep momentum going. Kerry didn't have all their squad available at any stage this year and they will have seen the weaknesses in Antrim in the second half of the last meeting, big concerns here in Antrim after that game.

Keeper: if you are hurling mad as you seem to be, tune in to Antrim YouTube at 8pm tonight (Friday) Theyre are putting on a show Up for The Final with chat, music and the team for the final will be named. I can't see McManus being in the first 15 but he might be on the bench for a 15 minute run out at the end however I hope that he's treated as one of 32 and not put on because he is Neill McManus.

I won't get looking at that tonight, unfortunately, Brian. Neil nearly carried the team in the past. Might the last chance we get to see him play in Croker so I hope he gets a decent run out.

Good luck to the lads in Croker. Kerry will be tough opposition but if we can get over the nerves and hold ourselves physically we can win. Darren Gleeson and his backroom staff are doing a tremendous job. I've been critical of the hurlers and county board in the past but they are finally getting their act together. We have some excellent people working their socks off in Antrim and our junior teams are starting to compete again on a national level. If we can keep improving our structures and get Casement up and running Antrim will be a serious force in the near future.

More direct hurling the winner today from Antrim over a Kerry team that was not allowed to get going. The physical power and finishing finesse from The Saffrons made them deserving winners. Short passing from Kerry just did not work. Well done Antrim !

Fantastic to win even, not our best performance but we'll take it. We're back in the Liam McCarthy by right.

I don't think Antrim get enough credit for being a fairly competitive hurling county despite being as far away from hurling's strongholds as it's possible to get within Ireland.

Well done Antrim. Rte are a disgrace. Cutting to advertising just as Antrim captain started his speech as Gaeilge. They won't cut off Cluxton when he inevitably starts one of his borefests." I'd like to thank AIG and bla bla bla"

Well done Antrim great win although shouldn't have been as close in the end.

Kerry were dogged and hung in there and had a chance up to the end of the game.

Good to see Antrim going in right direction now and hopefully they keep going that way. With Antrim promoted and Down in Joe McDonagh next year Ulster hurling looking up just now.

Best team won the competition but very impressed with Kerry the whole way through.

Antrim need to get their fitness up to Div 1 levels to survive but I'm delighted to see them back in the championship.

Hopefully Carlow will join them soon.
