Mickey Harte

I have the greatest admiration for Mickie Harte. He has kept Tyrone in the top 5 teams in the country since taking over as manager in 2003. He had a brilliant team ro work with then. Hes built at least 3 teams since and kept them in the top tier. at the moment hes just acquired a very promising forward line up in Mc Shane, Mc Kenna, Young Canavan, Mc Curry, Bradley, Mattie Donnelly ,Sludden,.
My head says..bring back Tony Donnelly and add Fergal Logan and let Mickie take the helm for one last hurrah with what I firmly believe is an all Ireland winning team.
Let it be a transitional transfer of management.
Let Mickie take his final bow out in glory.

I also meant to add to last post that its quite possible that not many were queuing up for the managers position 3 years ago but any manager or possible coach with big ambitions would want this position now as they've the big potential now.

Can only echo what ppl have said so far. An absolute legend!!!. Even when you consider the personal tragedies along the way and to still have the drive, desire, want and enthusiasm to keep at it. So many would have fallen by the wayside and its probably what makes these type of people succeed.

After seeing the calibre of the Tyrone championship this year, god knows what a freshening up could do... and it would be his legacy too.

that's the big question, if Mickey allowed himself to be nominated very few within the county would want to or want to be seen to stand against him

Best of luck to Mickey whatever happens. He has been a great servant to Tyrone gaa. Down South we complain of obstacles in our way to success but its much harder for the 6 counties due to opposition beyond their control etc

That's where politics could be at play. It's possible some within the county are leaning pressure on the county board so they won't automatically grant him the extension; however privately are encouraging him to put his name forward again with a criteria set up to choose the manager for 2021 and beyond. Would anybody within Tyrone allow their name to go forward if Mickey publicly said his club was nominating him and he very much wanted to continue for a year?

I've been reading a lot about this today and my theory is if MH wants another year or even another term he'll get it; as his support systems appear to be in the right places.

I hope he does get one more year and I think in the end he will with a transitional plan put in place for autumn 2021; he deserves it and Tyrone might benefit from a transitional plan that has time to be implemented.

It's also very possible if a one year extension is denied; the county board will ask clubs to makes nominations for a new manager on a three year term; there could be politics here as well where MH actually ends up with another 3 year term as nobody in the county wants to stand against him.

I think this story has a long way to run yet.

He's had his time and i think if he had the best interests of his county at heart he should step aside and let someone else take the reins, its 12 years since his last all Ireland success and i don't think he knows modern football so although Tyrone are probably in the best 6 or 7 teams in the country i don't think they're any near good enough to win the all Ireland. By stepping aside he would encourage others to put their hands up to take over' surely to God he knows whilst he is still hanging around no one else will go up against him and this is probably more out of not wanting to challenge Mickey Harte because of some sort of loyalty/sentimental issues rather than thinking he is good enough to manage Tyrone in the modern age ,someone up there should say enough is enough because i think most Tyrone people know that mickeys had enough chances since 2008 to prove himself again!

I agree with DUBJOHN. Tyrone should look for a fresh approach in 2021. Things move on in sport, and a new man in charge can improve Tyrone. Mickey Harte's record is formidable, and stands for all time.

Wonder who will go first Micky Harte or Donald Trump.

To be fair to Micky, Donald never came up against the Dubs5 in the S8s.

I think Mickey deserves another 2 years after all the success he brought Tyrone, then leave after that whatever happens, he'd be around 70 then?

Agree, was saying earlier at least 1 year and then give reigns over with no hassle on either side. Deserves respect but can't stay forever either.

I see that a lot of people are saying give him one more year.

I am fairly sure I seen the same arguments last year and the year before that and the year before that, etc.

Eventually somebody has to step in and make the decision for him if he wont do it himself.

The CB now has to give him the ultimatum to use next year as an handover year for the new management team and he leaves at the end of the year regardless of what is won. Or he moves on now.

It cant keep going on like this forever.

Don't see the point of letting a man stay for another year for lap of honour. I doubt Mickey would be so sentimental with a player just cause he used to win games a few years back

How dose he deserve another year? Then another one? It will keep going on his times up end of story I've been saying it for along time now.

He was at the end of a 3 year term, so would have been the right time to go. Maybe that this year being affected by covid and no backdoor, meant it was a more limited year, but still

It seems more like Mickey Harte wants to go out on a high, but Tyrone still a bit off winning Sam, so what's the reason. There is players like Lee Brennan not on Tyrone panel who might flourish under a new manager. Brennan was excellent U21 under Fergal Logan

Why does he need those 2 years? Do you say the same in 2 years time? Sure little will have changed. He cant do too much more and staying could hamper the county more than help it. The next guy in will have a very difficult job and Mickey staying on just makes that job harder.
