Best Last Gasp Scores

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Replying To Htaem:  "Some great last minute scores mentioned, as a neutral I think Maurice Fitz v Dublin 01, Cassidy v Kildare 11 and Cluxton v Kerry in 11 were all brilliant dramatic late scores to name but a few. As was Cork's winner v Kerry this weekend in fairness.

As a Meath fan I've seen us get plenty of dramatic late winners and equalisers over the years, particularly when we were a top team (many moons ago) such as Beggy v Dublin 91, Coyle & Reilly v Mayo 96, Murphy v Westmeath 01 and many others.

But one I really enjoyed which is a bit forgotten I think is Cian Ward's brilliant equalizer from the sideline v Dublin in 2007 to take game to a replay. We were down by 5 points in both first and second half of that game but we came on and dragged us back into it."
That was a terrific point. When they talk of Maurice Fitz they should also talk of wardy wonder kick.

mick jacob v all ireland champions kilkenny.it was made all the sweeter by the fact that there was only 20k supporters there, and while 19k were probably from wexford it was still only the really true wexford support who travelled that day. will never forget it.

also,i still remember my father cheering when seamus darby got that goal.has to be the greatest.

otherwise, ciaran carey for me is still the greatest.i still remember him powering up the field, his neck pumping as he gave every last ounce he had to it.unreal score.

Replying To SouthsideRossie:  "Spot on Douglas_44, possibly my favourite too. Some other great memories for bruised Rossies out there, Derek Duggans injury time free in 1991 in Castlebar to tie it up was unreal.
However you probably have to give no 1 to Shane Curran's penalty in minor final injury time 2 years before, also in Castlebar. Such drama as he ran past the designated taker (who was under orders to tap it over for a draw) and buried it for a "win. Then all hell broke lose! Great times."
I remember Roscommon went celebrating and were then presented with the trophy not realizing that the referee had disallowed the goal and Galway were in fact champions. I suppose the Connacht council did the fairest thing and ordered a replay. I went to the replay, which was also in McHale Park, out of curiosity but there was no further controversy and Ros won by a couple of points.

Domhnall O'Donovans point wont be beaten for me. Mick Jacobs goal against KK also lives long in the memory"
That broke my heart. I thought we'd done enough and toned our run hone to perfection. I don't think Cork ever recovered from that to this day.

Wonder did Sludden ever ref again since."
Yeah he did ! He got to ref a few games in the Heineken cup the following year!

Replying To leitrim4sam:  "Leitrim forward James Glancy scored a last minute injury time volley from about 20 yards out, to draw a game against Donegal in the qualifiers in 2007. They beat us by 2 points after extra time. He caught it on the full volley and it shot in to the net as sweet as strike as you could ever see.

In 2005 Leitrim scored a dramatic point in injury time to go one up against Meath and we were home and hosed, only for Meath to somehow work it out to Ollie Murphy to score a last gasp equalize , we lost in extra time to them.

We were so unlucky back then."
There's hardly a video anywhere for this goal?

Best game I've ever been at live.

Séamus Darby, or maybe the Cork goal that gave them a draw against Kerry in the all Ireland semis, about 10 years ago.

From a Mayo point of view...

Peadar Gardiner point vs Galway in the 09 Connacht final.

Cillian O'Connor equaliser in the 2016 final vs Dublin.

Kevin McLoughlin point vs Donegal in 2018 league. It kept us up and relegated Donegal.

James Durcan goal vs Donegal in the league this year which got us a draw.

Connacht Final 1998 Galway v Roscommon in Tuam. Absolutely bucketing down .galway came into the game heavy favourites but Roscommon were ahead by a point in the dying mins. Niall Finnegan steps up to take a free and level it . I was standing behind the goal drenched to the skin....he scores the point sending it to a replay and the rest as they say is history....Galway brought Sam west that year for the first time in 32 years

I was there as a young lad myself. Horrendous weather..and a lightening fast red card too!! Replay played in much better conditions, extra time and took a mistake from our keeper to separate the teams at the end! Heartbreaking!

1984 Leinster hurling semi final, Kilkenny two in a row AI champions, Tony Dorans late goal gave Wexford a 3-10 to 1-13 win, it was one of those radio commentaries one never forgets, Tony Dorans shot was saved initially by Noel Skehan, and I think it the late Mick Dunne commentating "yes, no its saved, "Yes its a goal, a goal for Wexford"...

Tadhg Murphys goal in 1983 Munster final defeat of Kerry, this was a rivetting game, unlike the keep possession game of a few weeks ago, when the Mark Keane late goal, while dramatic, as it was the last action of the game, the game itself was poor, with over cautious posession, even when Cork were deep in injury time, they were passing the ball around as if there was 10 minutes left, and were steeped in luck to get that goal...

there have been many great late scores over the years..
