It's really just a token victory given what lays ahead for the winners

Can't call this either, I suppose I'd just give Meath the edge by 3 or 4 points, hope whoever meets Dublin in the final gives them a good game of it anyway. 10 in a row provincial titles is ridiculous.

There's a lot being made of division 1 standard vs division 2 standard but I really think, with the exception of the two final games, league form can't be used as an accurate prediction metric. The first half of the league was a lifetime and a lockdown ago.
In any given year, I'd absolutely say having played in division 1 would stand to the likes of Kildare, Meath, Roscommon or any of the 7-16th ranked teams but I don't think it really holds this year. Maybe I'm wrong, I just don't see Kildare losing to the likes of Armagh on current form whereas that was different in Spring.

Meath are more than slight favourites...

Meath 8/13
Kildare 7/4

Last time we beat Kildare in championship we were 4/1. I honestly made a packet. Holidays etc. I just knew we'd win. I'm less optimistic this time, as we don't have the element of surprise, that day we had newcomers like keoghan and menton.
Now from word go tomorrow Morris will be watched O'Sullivan too, Jones etc. So really Meath are now a open book , if Kildare do their homework it could be very touch and go. Unlike under mcgeeney ,O'Connor knows his stuff. He's been there done that as a manager. I'm more nervous than I was, I still think we will win but can't see it been decisive.

Cavan! - Cavan now won 19/21 Ulster Football titles at once stage in the 30's/40's. In that context, A potential 10 in a row by a 5 in a row All Ireland winning Dublin team is low on the ridiculous scale.

I'd fancy meath to score a few goals today. We look very porous at the back. We do have some decent forwards though and a fine midfield so it might he high scoring if the conditions aren't too soggy.

A big factor will be that Kildare are always awful in Croke park. 5 victories in 23 attempts, with the last win was v Wexford in 2016.

Should be an enjoyable enough game. Both sets of supporters won't get too upset one way or the other, because who ever wins this won't be within 20 points of Dublin in the final. It begs the question in a way, what is the point in going through the motions of a championship to be guaranteed to have it ended by Dublin?

I can't speak for Kildare but I can say with some certainty that Meath would be planning on been a lot closer to Dublin than 20 points. As the recent league game would suggest. Meath are making progress , I thought Kildare were a couple of years ago too. But they seem to have stagnated now I'd say joc will push them on further as he is a top class manager.
Neither of us will know how close we are until we actually play them.
On today's game I want to wish Andy Donal and Brian along with all the team and back room staff the very best wishes. You have been a great distraction in these very strange times. God how I'd love to be be in Croke park today.

I don't know Daith, regardless of what awaits the winner today I still want to see Meath win and I'll be disappointed if we don't. That's not to say I expect us to beat Kildare, I think it's a 50/50 game but I'd like to see us progress and getting dumped out at this stage would be disappointing and I'd imagine Kildare fans would feel the same.

I think for Leinster teams to really start challenging Dublin again a few things need to change and first and foremost is our attitude towards them. If we're beaten mentally before taking to the field then we have no chance, it won't even matter if resources are more evenly spread going forward we have to get over that hurdle first.

Anyway that aside, I'm really looking forward to today's game, Meath v Kildare is one of those perpetually unpredictable fixtures. It could be very tight throughout or one team could win at a canter (like Kildare in 2017).

Every time our Royal correspondents on he's giving off about Mc Geeney and other things outside his own county. Man knows everything, he even beats the bookies, he just knew they'd win. Genius.

I actually have butterflies, I'd love to be heading into Croker today for this one. I have Meath as slight favourites, but we have been building nicely and that is the strongest Kildare bench that I can remember so we have plenty to be hopeful about. I hope it's a great game and that we bring our best performance, Both teams are striving to get to the next level so May the best team win and go on to present a real challenge to the dubs ( with all respect to Laois)

Happy enough at ht. Strong wind to favour Meath in 2nd half. All to play for yet.

Don't know that the wind will make much of a difference, Kildare have been the far better team all over the park. We can't seem to win a ball at mid-field, we're going to have to sort that out to have any chance!

Couldn't see a Mc Geeney team leaking 5 goals against any team.

Hard luck to Kildare, strange aul game, Kildare owned the first half but we went on another goal spree in the second half. I would expect a tigher affair when we meet again in spring.

Ps, last time we beat the Dubs we also scored 5-9, perhaps a good omen ;-)

Sickened after that, really feels that we shot ourselves in the both feet, Well done to Meath, took their chances when we offered them, that game I think is an accurate illustration of where both teams are at

We were rubbish. Kildare still put up more scores, despite losing shape 20 minutes before the game ended, and kicked a heap more wides. We won, but more a case of Kildare tripping themselves up. Would of run up a cricket score against us on another day. We're going to have to raise it massively from here on out, and can't see that happening

Exactly. Very poor defending in second half. Meath were always going to go for goals in second d half. Zero defensive structure. Inability to score or even create goal chances came back to haunt us in a huge way today. Once a team gets a lead on us we have to try and out point them. Shite stuff at this stage
