Yellow Sliotar

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I see the GAA has said that only Approved Yellow sliotars can be used for matches in championships this year. Problem is there is no list of approved yellow sliotars. The Greenfields ball was to be the one that replaced all others in this regard(it has a digital chip inside it). Most of the usual suppliers make a yellow version but its not clear from the press release which ones are going to be used in the championship.

I played with yellow balls years ago but it was because a bo----ks kicked me in them the week before.

This should have been used as an opportunity to standardise the sliotars used in champioship once and for all. It seems a tad rushed in, that said you'd imagine they would help with visibility, especially for umpires with the white posts.

The sole reason for a yellow sliotar is it disappears even on a 50" HD TV. Especially say a televised match in an empty Pairc Ui Chaomh with banks of light grey terracing ball may as well be hit into fog. Now I wouldnt expect players to love em, nor coaches etc. But for once maybe the GAA can do something without silly objections cluttering social media and embarresing the spirt. And point taken about standardised size, weights etc perfect time to sort it.

Yellow fluo is the best colour for visibility which is why most bike and safety kit is made with it

Meant to say a white one disappears, not a yellow one! But is it not a bit silly this moaning. As no one will be at games, which will be on TV, streamed on various devices. Maybe think of people watching. Its kinda hard to take this sort of pettiness when you look at the state of things.

Have they nothing better to be talking about. If only it was the biggest issue in hurling at the moment!
The lads saying it is a rock - any hurling ball out in Boston temperatures is probably going to be a rock. Did Scruff try it on a fine summers day in Nowlan Park for comparison?

I think the likes of Joe canning and eoin Murphy know what they are talking about in relation to the new sliotar.

Oneills were able to make yellow footballs the exact same as the white ones. Is it possible for them to make the new yellow sliotars too the same way? It can't be rocket science.

Some inter-county hurlers just love to whinge. Changing from white to yellow hardly makes much difference? Sliotars were brown at one stage - I wonder if the hurlers of the past moaned like this when white ones were introduced?

I never said they didn't, I asked a question whether a ball in -5 in Boston is really a valid reference.
And, instead of moaning about it, why didn't they ask if they have improved/changed/etc?
And anyway - why do we need GAA players/managers/pundits opinion on everything? We in the GAA love to ask everybody about rules, refereeing, championship structures, etc. You will never please everybody.

And talk about weight. When you hit the old, old balls you got a shower from the water coming out of it. Someone looking for as a head line with a big name assigned to it. Childish arguments about a simple change that will have no mention in a short time. Maybe now I understand better why Liam Cahill moved Noel on and as much as I admired Derek McGath how much testing and games played has he done with the new ball. There must be a better topic that this rubbish. By the way I recently changed the colour of my underwear but no one noticed so thinking of wearing them on the outside.

"Hurling people" seem to be determined to refuse any chances. No matter how little difference it makes.

I don't agree with that. I think a yellow sliotar for winter could be a smart move. Hurling doesn't need any other changes, the game is perfect the way it is.

I'll take their opinions over someone who uses "hurling people" with quotes to describe hurling fans

There's a difference between the two.

I would be a hurling fan. However "Hurling people" are the type who refuse to listen to anything other than people who think hurling is the greatests game in the world with no issues at all. Despite the fact that there clearly is.
