That all been said we are getting there. And are improving, we lacking one or two killer forwards and that is our downfall, the kick out for the goal? Was just Dublin been cuter than us, small instantly knew Brennan was goin to go short, it is one of those things that u learn with experience . And that a gk disguises better. Andy is definitely improving us, we are without a lot of lads same as every other county but I just feel we can't afford to be without some of them. Morris was excellent and has to be a future starter imo , O'Sullivan had one of his better games but keeps running down blind alleys. Conlon should have been brought in earlier. Who is the go to forward in Meath for court team at this stage ?? I see plenty of assistants but no stand out. Anyone any idea who that could be ?"
I see David Dillon, David McEntee and Keith Curtis on bench tonight? Surely Aaron Lynch from Trim deserves a look in, much superior than these players

Replying To Young_gael:  "Good performance; lets be real it could have been very ugly if the Dubs pressed on at 1-3 to 0-1 up. From a Dublin perspective, they cant be too happy with that; sloppy, ill-disciplined, lethargic, it wasnt good. From our perspective a lot of positives. Morris did well. Conlon too when he came on. Walsh looked very solid at this level. Keogan must be used as much as possible going forward; lethal runner. We did ok in the midfield battle and really turned them over a lot in our own half. Hickey/Harkin also did really well. Workrate was excellent. If I was to be honest though we still didnt look like a side capable of winning that game in my view. You could sense we clicked well and the Dubs were in 2/3rd gear. We still make too many errors, cough up kickout possession too often (goal aside), and lack killer instinct up front in a big way. I wouldve also liked to see our lads rough it up a bit more, but they did physically acheive relative parity as well. One of the cleanest Dub/Royal games you'll see. 1-20 to 0-19 is a result we can take and build on. I say the upcoming year in div.2 will be important to build and consolidate our panel, and once again the ultimate aim should be to seek promotion. This wasnt an ideal game to be going off; but Meath are slowly eaking closer to the level we want to be at. Also well done to our minor team on a huge win over Dublin in Navan today. A very positive day for Meath."
Could not agree more with the post.

Never looked like a team that were going to push on and have the killer edge against Dublin but plenty to take from the game tonight.

Meath have been within a score for most games this campaign and unfortunately it boils down to missed goal changes and sloppy errors at the back.

Apart from goal keeper, we are getting a bit of depth. Brennan is not the solution and I am inclined to agree that he was only following orders and its a high risk task.

As a team, we have to be cuter.

The truncated Championship will not do us any favours as it looks like we will meet Dublin in the Leinster semi and exit there.

But it builds for a campaign in Division 2 next spring.

Great win for the minors today and good performance from the seniors, vastly better than the shambles in last year's Leinster final.

Like many here I didn't grow up watching Meath simply pushing Dublin, I grew up watching Meath beating Dublin and that's where I'm sure we'd all like to return. Now tonight may have been a nothing game for us and I know we lost in the end anyway but it looked like progress, and progress is never a bad thing, we just have to try and build on it now.

Not a bad day's work overall lads, hopefully if the championship does go ahead (and that's a big if at the minute) we can put in a few more encouraging performances.

Lacked the killer instinct and belief to beat a dublin team that were there for the taking which is a shame, in saying that there was numerous good performances Thomas Reilly and shane walsh being the stand out, no doubt meath are going in the right direction but these moral defeats are starting to get frustrating, a win against Monaghan next week is badly needed for the confidence of this meath team.

Well done to the lads ! Dublin looked in 2nd gear most of the time ! We were never going to win it ! If McGill Lavin McMahon Harnan Lenihan were back then Thats a huge plus ! Great to see Cathal Hickey play well as a fellow clubman ! Hes a huge talent and fair play to him ! Shane walsh Menton Keoghan OSullivan were all very good tonight !
I Like what andy is doing! Hopefully the panademic doesnt put the spanner in the works

I like devine alot but if him or any player can't/won't track back as a wing forward against the all Ireland champions well then they need to be replaced no matter how long is gone in the game. We can't afford to carry any passengers and unfortunately tonight he looked like he was blowing a bit IMO. no big deal doesn't make him a bad player and i wouldn't be writing him off and there will be plenty of good days in a meath shirt for him but was just a bad night at the office for him."
Exactly, taken off because the workrate/ legs weren't there. Not a good night, move on,he is still a good player like you said.

Worrying about who gets taken off after 60 minutes is 1999 thinking. They played great and I'm sure management thought same.
Need to get as many subs on as possible, all of the meath good in last 16 minutes was going through the fresh legs.
Also.we are relegated and there's a shirt run in to championship ( if it ever happens) so good to protect those considered an injury risk and get some rotation in.
Stop being precious.

Concession of sloppy goal knocked us back for first quarter and allowed Dublin to get into their stride, however we recovered well but gave away possession too often from our kick outs, this is still the way teams will target us and management have to find some way around this fatal flaw. Game plan seemed better with ball moved forward quicker than of late, much less lateral movement a bit more direct. Need a win soon as losing is eating away at confidence.

Disappointing is my reaction. I Think management and players will agree with that. Dublin where there for the taking and we couldn't do it.
OK i suppose it could have been worse when we 6/7 down but when we got into a position to take the lead with 10 to go we had 2 brutal wide's and that was that as Dubs in 2nd gear pushed on.
Moral victory's is all we have to look back on again and they win nothing and really do f all for the team.
Very worrying to see some of the caliber of players we have on the bench.

On a night when Fenton and Kilkenny seemed quiet their class showed especially Fenton who did what he liked and kicked 5 points from play

Would agree with you on almost all of this apart from the loss affecting the teams confidence. Don't see that happening at all. I see the opposite happening to be honest. I tbinithink that performance will give them a huge confidence boost. Competed really well and troubled Dublin on a number of occasions which is a massive improvement on previous games v Dublin. Yes they weren't at full strength and there's an arguement that they were in 2nd/3rd gear but there was still a huge amount of positives to take from it and another performance like that next week i think could get us the win and even if it doesn't would have us in a good place going into the championship if there is one.

Curtis wasn't on this years 20s match day 24 Must have had a really good club championship that I missed David Dillon had to have had a great championship too if you're picking on form David McEntee must have showed really good form too
Would have liked to see Aaron Lynch at senior club before senior county but he could do nothing about that and is worth a look There seems to be a low bar for some players to come in the panel and higher for others though Mitchell from Dunshaughlin has hit big scores in both his years at senior club, is only 19 and while still not fully developed would have to benefit from inclusion Also has a track record of delivering in big matches - minor Leinster final AI quarter and semi as well as club senior - which was absent last night Morris x2 chances, Walsh x 1 Hickey x 1 (excuse here as he's a back and on his first game) Flynn from Ratoath also had a good year at senior and should get a chance. I won't even go at the Beano/ Mattimoe argument as it has been well articulated here in the past
We can do better

Yes Meath looking down the barrel of 10 straight defeats to Division 1 opposition when we head to Monaghan next week or 11 if you count the Leinster Final 2019. A 1 point win in Qualifiers v Clare is all we have to show .....Not much progress there

Just didn't seem to have the belief that we could beat them yesterday. When we had the chances to draw level, we just seemed to panic. Nonetheless, encouraging performance after the first water break. Looked like it was going to be a massacre after the first 15 minutes. Up front, Walsh was the pick of the bunch while Cillian O'Sullivan did very well as a playmaker.
Menton did very well and Harkin had a great debut (and an even better score). But Keogan is just such a phenomenal player. He's the one player of ours wSmallho would walk onto any other team in the country. He was immense in both attack and defence.

While the referee was decent, how he allowed Small to stay on the field is baffling. Was given a yellow card and committed another foul before flattening Menton with a late 'tackle'.

I know our record is not good and we need to learn to win essentially but to be fair I think things can improve for us.

One factor which could work in our favour is a much improved Club championship. For me this year was far and away the most competitive Meath championship since 2002 (the last time we had 4 groups of 4).

Now I know it was a sligthly shortened version this year because only the top teams in each group made it through but that vastly increased the urgency to win. For nearly 20 years Meath clubs could lose 3 or 4 games and still qualify for the KO stages our of club championship, it was crazy stuff and for me it completely took the edge off our players.

Adding david mcentee to the panel might raise a few eye brows but I think hes definitely good enough, talented footballer that plays on the edge, he might not see much time this season with a few forwards ahead of him, but expect him to be very prominent in the future with meath

Agree Ratoath Royal and Graham, Small was a lucky man. The Dubs in general were very cagey, havent seen them like that in a long time; maybe its down to the circumstances and first game back etc, but one wonders if the change of manager has anything to do with it. If they behave like that and are easily annoyed, they'll be far more beatable when they meet Kerry.

For us, after a sleep, we should be satisfied imo. That match could well be our swan song for 2020, given the new lads and their slotting into the team like they did and the depleted nature of the team Im chuffed with it. Its not a win, its not success, but success takes time. Rome wasn't built in a day. We can hold our heads up after that one and the country knows it. Regardless of how mediocre the Dubs performed on the day.

Walsh did well but should have scored the goal Can't blame Hickey for his as up until this year he was a corner back
Morris missed 2-1 though which he should have finished particularly as he was on the Dubs worst player His two points came under no pressure late in the game Banty was a better option or Jack O Connor
Thomas Reilly kicked some great frees
Keoghan and Menton still the leaders and never stop running
Andy will be remembered for not addressing the goalkeeper problem even though I think Brennan is the best we have but nothing coming through in early / mid 20's
Might be time to convert an outfield player- Not Joe!!!"
McCoy was getting roasted by kilkenny.not taken off strange with devine maybe not doin what was asked.but goalie thing getting annoying good keeper but we need to get someone to work with kickouts.younger man needed if we are to compete at the top level.
