Just happy to see the footballers do well too no matter who we play. It would have been nice though to have gotten at least one win over Kerry when we were going good a few years back. Looked it up and Galway last got one over the Dubs in championship in 1934... that rivalry is a bit of slow burner!

That's fine as far as it goes. How many times have Galway and Dublin met in the Championship since 1934? Considering Galway have won 7 All-Irelands, and been runners-up 10 times since then.

7 times... last one a couple of years ago and the one before that 1983, a gap of 35 years. World climate went up a couple of degrees in that time, which is a couple of degrees more than the Galway/Dublin rivalry! Mind you, for those old enough, 1983 still resonates like few finals before or since - Mayo/Meath 1996 maybe, and the Dubs/Mayo semi-final of 2006, though that one only for the theatrics!

The Meath thing that a lot of Mayo people have boggles the mind really. I understand that Mayo could've and maybe should've won the 96 title, but isnt that the same of many other finals Mayo were involved in? Maybe its that Meath went on to win an All-Ireland in 99 after 96 and many Leinster titles also that meant the 96 thing was settled in the mind very quickly in Meath and now its barely an afterthought. Is that year seen as "the one that got away?"
