"At this juncture", RTÉ have lost their minds.

Brian will be missed.

"RTE should be let go bust" was the commont I replied to if you could manage to read you thick dumb fool.
If RTE go we are left with nothing but private media just like USA and their fox news and the like who push right wing loons.

And btw Carthy is a has-been

You may try to defend RTE but they have their agendas like all media and are good at spinning. Your negative comments about Brian Carthy tells me enough about you without making any further comments on the matter.

Seems like a nice guy and is grand at the interviews before and after games, but sadly an absolutely dreadful match commentator.

You judge people on solely on their views of Brian Carthy. That's a bit of a weird criteria to use as the main reason to judge someone you never met.

Being completely honest I was never a huge fan of Brian, not that my opinion will keep him awake at night. Anyway we shouldn't jump to conclusions here, it's been stated he's looking at other projects so this decision could be mutual.

Personally wasnt mad on Carthy as a commentator.

Also people mentioning that he was sacked, completely untrue this. His contract wasnt renewed theres a massive difference.

Ger Canning should be soon due to retire also. He is the age I believe. Marty remains ageless and timeless

there is a ready made replacement working on local radio- his name is John Lynch- look him up- brilliant commentator. Some would claim he is a particular natural indeeeed

Agree.and it's a gooaall from Padraig joyce. Seems like a decent fella but I can't listen to him commentating. Terrible monotonous voice and keeps repeating stuff. Best of luck to him, just hope replacement is better.

Can't believe there are so many critics of Brian Carty's commentaries here. He is way ahead of Marty Morrissey in terms of GAA knowledge. Marty regularly displays his ignorance of the rules and frequently names players incorrectly. But his most annoying habit is the way he over-reacts to scores from the top players, for example "that's an unbelievable score from Patrick Horgaaaaaan". Carty comes across as a very enthusiastic, modest and knowledgeable GAA man whereas Marty is, in my opinion, a bit of a showman.

Brian wasn't that good but from RTÉ you wouldn't expect too much. He kept repeating the score translating goals and points into points repeatedly, and telling us over and over a again how much time was left.......one never knew who had the ball, where in the field they were or what they were doing with the ball. But I wish him all the best all the same

Rte is another example of incompetence and average being the standard expected.
Spillane and Cantwell are proof of the level we're talking about here.

I'm so sorry to hear Brian Carthy has left RTe , for what ever reasons , not a show man but a proper gaa man , true commentary doesn't fall on all ears and his knowledge of the game is second to a few , typical of what is in charge of our national games now .. youse haven't a clue

What's a "proper GAA man" if me or others don't like his commentary or views on GAA matters does that make us nor proper GAA men?
