There will be no new stadia built. GAA has lost a lot of money and finance this year. No gate receipts.

Ever seen traffic in Thurles, it's a nightmare, and you have to park miles away if you drive

Shouldnt have to be case and too many drive to all games. More should be using public transport to get there be it trains considering thurles on main dublin cork line and easy access to limerick as well and then buses on top of that

Agree with you. I appreciate a train or bus only suits some, but we should be doing more to encourage the use of public transport to matches.
It is not always possible I suppose, if Wexford play Kilkenny or a match in Carlow etc it isn't really possible.

MacHale Park getting a new pitch....badly needed. Also extending it by 5m at the Albany End. Will be closed for club finals this year.

Not at all if you go in time. I have been driving to Thurles for almost fifty years. I have travelled there from East Cork, West Limerick, Dublin and Carlow, among other places and I know a lot of the side roads around the town by now, although I seldom need to use them.. The secret is go early and you will easily get into Liberty Square and I have for many years now got a parking place in the car park near Hayes's Hotel. and one then has a very manageable walk out to the pitch. A pint in Denis Corbetts on the way out was always good to shorten the journey but Denis has retired now so of late we call to the Sarsfields Bar at the pitch instead. I have seldom if ever been late into the pitch as I always go in time- otherwise you can be in trouble.

So in other words if everyone goes early there would be no problem with parking in the town or close to the stadium.... I don't think so...!!!

There isn't a park in the country you don't have miles to walk to if a big game is on

As my grandfather used to say, there's no such thing as bad gaa pitches, it's bad people going to them.

Wonder will Dublin ever get around to building a stadium that they actually host matches in?? Parnell Park obviously is not up to it, as they have to use Croke Park all of the time. Wonder can they afford to build one??

They're waiting for the wad from Croke Park to build one.

Well if people cannot be bothered to come in time and all turn up at the turnstiles two minutes before the game starts then you will have problems. I also believe throw in times should never ever be put back to facilitate late comers. That is a gross insult to those who went to the game on time. Anyway, how many times have you travelled to Thurles for a big game?

Id never park in the middle of Thurles oldtourman I'd always swing the jeep around at the edge of the town and have it facing for home, I don't mind a long walk it's actually nice if it's not raining especially after a long spin.

God you'd miss the ould road trips to matches and stopping for grub in different places on the way home.

You miss the days out alright. The journey to a different venue, and the enjoyment of the match, even if you are a neutral. Having the food in different places on the way back is a bonus.
If you travel in good time, you avoid the bottlenecks, and can park in comfort. Simple really, but some people arrive late however, you won't change them.

A few times but only drove once ( 96 u-21 football final v Kerry) .. that day people walked 3/4 miles to get there with the traffic... luckily I followed a car down back roads into the town... I would go by train from Dublin from then on... The point I was trying to make before somebody from Offaly got a above himself was that if everyone goes early you still have trouble parking if adequate facilities are not around the ground... which is mostly the case
