Master Calendar 2020

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Are we likely to see a master fixtures calendar in the coming days or weeks? Anyone any ideas?

How has it actually been followed in the past few years in your opinion?

The big tough guys from Jones Road are due in town in the next week or so to try and force the Co Boards at underage to go from the even numbers to the odd numbers. That simply would mean u.13 , 15, 17 instead of u.12, 14 and 16. The Co board have twice voted for the age groups to remain as they are. There are a few on the Co Board who want to see this change but almost every club that I know are against it. After that meeting we will probably get the Master Fixtures Plan. In the past Croke Park have steamrolled ahead with selling games to sky, bringing in the Super 8's, changing the dates for All Ireland finals for both county and clubs despite grassroot members having any input into the decisions so you can expect the same result with the underage. May not happen this year though.

I've heard it come back to our own club several times so I expect it's only a matter of time. I would have thought having for instance a competitive U16 club championship in September would benefit minor selectors the following winter but that might make too much sense.

Any update on this since? I understand county board met last week to discuss. When are we expecting to see it.

Also, is anyone else finding glitches with new website?

I heard there's a new CCC committee for this year so they're probably working on it. Assume it won't change too much on last years with clubs taking to the field sometime in early march.

Co board are currently asking clubs to nominate both a treasurer and Cultural Officer This is poor coming over 2 months after the farcial election of the treasurer at the AGM. Obviously the penny dropped and some one realised that procedure wasn't adhered to. Equally as big a problem will be trying to fill the shoes of the excellent John Clifford's as head of Club. Sligo.

I hope not. They made a mess out of his appointment at the convention so they have to stick up the job again

A copy of the draft fixtures is out I got a look at it from the players group. Have to say looks an improvement on last year. Knockout warm up competitions that will finish on the day and be over before league one of the sensible changes as well as a few windows for holidays in the summer.

Biggest change is the head off CCC has been replaced by his own Clubman, who says that there isn't politics at work there

We had a club meeting last night and proposed calendar was on show from the secretary. The consensus seemed to be that it was an improvement on previous years, get the warm-ups and 21s finished in good time, get the league wrapped up by mid summer and championship format tweaked (3 out of 5 go through from group, bottom into relegation final). There were 3 senior players in the meeting and they were happy that sea sessions weekend was free as it has been a problem weekend in the past with lads away. Shows a bit of common sense anyway

Younger age profile of the new chairperson must be showing when they kept sea sessions weekend free!!

One small thing. I see the QF of Kieran. Benson, Abbott is down for the 29th Feb/1st Mar.
With 9 teams, isn't there a prelim round?

I can't say I went through it in that detail, was a quick scan. Pity its not online. Speaking of online I know its probably done on a volunteer basis so I shouldn't be too critical but the revamped sligogaa.ie website is poor
