The fact that colm galvin will not play any part in the league i cant see him getting into the team for the first round of the championship. particular when our midfield now looks to be set in stone. championship is hardly the time to experiment with a new position for him. i would like to have seen him get a go at center back during the league. hurlingexpert (Clare) - Posts: 1941 - 04/03/2020 17:29:49 2272227 Link 0 |
Dont know where your getting this Malone stuff from. its clear Lohan doesnt fancy him as much as the previous lads did. no chance he will start over SOH. LohansRedHelmet (Clare) - Posts: 2697 - 09/03/2020 10:02:52 2272959 Link 1 |
I know I am repeating myself but Galway in Semi & Limerick in Final of league both win league of course clooney (Clare) - Posts: 984 - 09/03/2020 11:43:11 2272984 Link 0 |
Malone was our best player across the championship games last year. I have little doubt about that. after a few years of being wing forward and midfield i think last year we found a position that suits him best! i would tend to agree that lohan will probably go with o'halloran there. although as i see it there is not much between them and i would probably edge it to malone personally. hurlingexpert (Clare) - Posts: 1941 - 09/03/2020 15:28:58 2273060 Link 0 |
Its half backline or nothing for Cathal i think too, he is very honost player and would do a job but O Halloran definately seems to have position at moment. The Management seem to have settled on positions 1-9 and in forwards Reidy/Conlon/O Donnell & D Fitzgerald seem nailed on as well. 2 spots up for grabs for me Shanagher should start but I feel that Management will always want a high impact sub and Aaron rarely disappoints clooney (Clare) - Posts: 984 - 09/03/2020 17:19:56 2273096 Link 0 |
To play in the half backs, you need to be good on the ball as delivery into the forwards is key. I dont think that is Malones strong point, however he could be used as a stopper or man marker for some games. His workrate, desire and never say die attitude is first class. He can also do a job at wing forward and his point taking for the Bridge improved a lot under Davy for this club last year. He is an option there especially if Lohan wants to go with a hard working 10-12. Clareman (Clare) - Posts: 1056 - 09/03/2020 21:29:04 2273148 Link 0 |
Is Jamie Shanahan injured he seems injury prone i agree with you he would be a big addition great distributor of ball could also have a cut at no 11. Hope that C Galvin returns soon also he will have to work for his place but he is a real gem hardly ever had a bad game. I hope that we get Galway in Semi as we would have none of the Davy/Brian factor Galway are also very big & physical it would be some test for Cleary on C Whelan we would know where we are really if we could compete with them. This years Munster championship will be massively competitive any 3 could come through clooney (Clare) - Posts: 984 - 10/03/2020 10:21:26 2273192 Link 0 |

john conlon apparantly has picked up a knee injury in training which could turn out to be quiet a serious injury. fingers crossed that its not as significant an injury as feared. hurlingexpert (Clare) - Posts: 1941 - 12/03/2020 10:56:25 2273522 Link 0 |

Conlan is gone for the year, cruciate. Best of luck to him with recovery. Those 4G pitches are unforgiving. Clareman (Clare) - Posts: 1056 - 16/03/2020 11:41:31 2273966 Link 0 |

Sorry to hear this, a very fine hurler (although he was often a pain in the neck for us)

His battle with Sean Finn last year was immense. Finn got better of him in the end but it was proper manly stuff. Even when Clare were getting hammered he fought, won ball and drew frees. Physically and mentally he had a tough year in 2019 and this is another kick in the teeth but he will bounce back. Health is wealth overall though as we are seeing at the moment in the real world. Hurling will return but lets hope everyone stays as safe as they can in months ahead. Bí curamach. Clareman (Clare) - Posts: 1056 - 21/03/2020 11:43:24 2274228 Link 0 |

Donal Og says we will have John & Peter for game { wouldent you think he would have his facts right] its a massive challenge no doubt but a big prize on offer we have a settled team but there is no doubt that Limerick will be overwlelming favourites we can only do our best I suppose. clooney (Clare) - Posts: 984 - 29/06/2020 08:59:16 2282199 Link 0 |
Being available and being ready for a starting position might be two different things. Normally you would except not only Conlon and Duggan but also Colm Galvin and David Fitzgerald (in the centre forward position that he has slotted so well into in his few games there under Lohan) to be practically automatic choices to begin games, but it wouldn't surprise me if only Fitzgerald of these four gets a start against Limerick. Yes, he missed the last couple of games but he had laid down a considerable marker in those he played for a somewhat problematic position (in fact,he took to the position like a duck to water). Before his injury, Conlon was in lacklustre form, and cruciate is a bloody hard injury to come back from. Even if he is fit I think he might only get a bench place. Likewise Duggan has been long away from the action. Personally, I would like to see a front six starting of Ryan (well capable of laying down a substantial marker), Fitzgerald, Reidy, O Donnell, Shanagher (ready to come of age), and Cunningham (but Lohan seems to prefer Ryan Taylor here), with Duggan, Conlon, Ian Galvin and Podge ready to shake things up when necessary. If Colm Galvin were to start whose place would he be challenging? My guess would be most likely Stephen O Halloran - but Stephen has done well so far so he probably should be given his long overdue place in a championship team. In fairness, that would leave Clare with some bench. I feel we are still very threadbare at the back, especially for the quality of the Limerick attack, but I still would not write us off in this game."]Fitzgerald looked promising at centre forward, he has all the attributes to make that position his own. He needs to impose himself on the game a bit more though. He's a big lad, he should be bouncing lads out of his way. Not sure about Cunningham, don't think he'd do too well against a team like Limerick with there work rate and high intensity. Think Taylor would be more suited to it. The lads he brought in did fine but there was very few real tests in that side of the league. Id say Brian L is a pragmatist and will know that to even compete with Limerick you need big strong men So Fitzgerald Guilfoyle Dhanagher and Moloney would have to start { SOD & Reidy will play too } If Colm galvin is fit he has to start too good a player. clooney (Clare) - Posts: 984 - 30/06/2020 10:58:55 2282349 Link 0 |
