Hurlers Who Where Never Lucky Enough To Win A All Star

(Oldest Posts First)

Just wondering if there are any hurlers in particular who where maybe good enough but never actually won an all star.

For me, noel keith from my club ballycran is one of the the best goalkeepers to ever grace the pitch, definitely the best to come out of Ulster and if hed played for any other county than down, hed have certainly had an all star. Few more mentionable names in down over the years such as Paul brannif and big magic, but for me noel Keith is certainly one who should have had an all star.

Anyone else?

Noel Keith gave some service in fairness.

Anyone who knows off him cant deny his ability. I've yet to see Ulster produce a better keeper, and I'd rank him up there with the best on the island. But wondering if there are any other hurlers out there who maybe got cut short of an all star??

for Down it has to be Noel Sands ,he was a class hurler ,M.J Ryan of Dublin was in a different class ,Brendan Murtagh of Westmeath is just unreal ability ,For Tyrone ,Damien Casey is abit special ,Chrissy MCkeigue of Derry is a smashing hurler & for me Andy O Brien of Wicklow is just a superb clever & hugely gifted hurler

James Mcgarry definitely should have got 1, Tom Kenny unlucky not to receive 1 either.

Others good hurlers off the top of my head not to get an all star are Seamus Prendergast, Damien Reale and Brian Carroll.

Ken McGrath's dad Pat was among the greatest players of all time who never won an All Star. Not just because he is from Waterford. Small in stature and could deliver right or left hand off the stick. Pick the ball out of the sky and those who thought they could man handle him came out on the wrong side of it.

Liam Watson by a mile. Never courted the media and was'nt one of their darlings.!! Main reason.
From my own county, Steve McDonagh and Declan Nash.
Tom Kenny Cork.
Mikey Boyle, John Hennessy, Shane Brick from Kerry.

Have to agree there, Liam Watson was different class and the time in 2010 when loughgiel won the all Ireland club he was unplayable. Neill McManus to for me would get onto any county panel to this day and definitely deserved an all star or two is his day. Always hard going to cushendall knowing hes about lol

Neil McManus for sure, one of the best hurlers of his time to come out of Ulster.
