Because it sickens them to the core that they are not the top dogs anymore .

Replying To bdbuddah:  "Completely different type player to Alan. He was more accurate than Alan, a more natural scorer but Alan had more pace and was great running on to the ball. Alan's best days were probably before Dublin became the all conquering force of this decade where as Bernard was lucky in that his peak coincided with the rise of this great Dublin team. Because of this Alan tends to be unfairly underrated when compared to Bernard.
Kerry people are stretching it a bit putting their football ability down to a Kerry mother considering their father was a Dublin great."
Sure we have to claim some part of him, he's just like Martin O Connell !! All a bit of banter , as the Duke of Wellington said "if a man be born in a stable , that does not make him a horse""

Spot on. and completely agree.
Alan was one of the most naturally gifted footballers in the country of the last 20 years...….Bernard one of the most potent attackers.....
Its not fair to compare them. 2 different footballers, one a playmaker in chief, the other an out and out scorer in chief.
Bernard FOTY 2010
Alan FOTY 2011

Absolutely blessed as a Dub supporter to have witnessed these two greats of the game over the last 2 decades. It really is an end of an era, no Brogans on the Dublin panel for the first time since the turn of the century

It happens,! No Ò Sè òn kerry team (70s 80s 90s 00s10s ) But we are fortunate to have families immersed in GAA Brogans absolute legends triumphed 7 times over Kerry they always seemed to be the assigned assassins nailing the vital scores Hats off to them !!

His Mam's from Listowel, im sure he has loads of family down there and is a regular, his grandparents on his Dads side are from Mayo. I remember him being invited one year to switch on the Christmas lights, i think in Killarney or Tralee which was a really nice gesture.

Replying To 37sowhat:  "Nice meeting you here !! I would not like to see a Kerryman being judged on a statement such as "not turning pro as the rest of the Dubs " referring to Bernard Brogan. Dublin team professions 2 Company executives 2 physios 4 Bank Officials ,1 doctor, 2 Tax Consultants 3 Teachers 4 University Students 2 with own businesses profiles very akin to Kerry counterparts I seem to remember both Darren O Sullivan and Kieran Donaghy giving up day jobs a few years ago so as to concentrate òn football , professional? Bernard senior 3 Bonn uile Eireann Bernard Junior 7 Both fantastic footballers in different eras both were a credit to the game"
While I agree with your broad point you are misinformed about Kieran. That was a rumour that turned out not to be completely false. Darren did leave work concentrating on football for one season before opening his own business, it was a desperate bid to get his body right after so many injuries.

Good interview with BB on the late late last night. Seems like a thoroughly genuine fella.

Seems like a classy sort of a fella and was a fine footballer . Good luck to him in his retirement.

That 1-10 in the league v Mayo in 13. Pure poetry in motion. Points off left and right foot, sideline point from out the field, cracking goal, 5 pointed frees. One of the great, great forward performances. His off the ball movement was incredible, basketball crossover solo hops, turning on a sixpence, uncanny eye for the posts from crazy angles. A legend. We'll miss him greatly and I hope the DCB keep him involved in some kind of coaching capacity. Most of all though, a great role model.

Well said Joxer - fully agree on keeping him involved in some capacity like coaching.
A role model and brilliant football brain.
He would be a great asset off the pitch.

Think RTE or SS will be all over him to be honest, no one can sell Superquinn Sausage like Bernard, hopefully like many of the lads he will get involved in the underage development squads, i think Whelo and Senan (also with NF) are involved despite their media gigs.

He sent over word during a leinster match v one of the amateur teams to stop over the top celebrating to the hill when thrashing the minnow. Pat was grounded that way
