GAA President

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I see that Roscommon's Rock and Armagh's Burns have already indicated that they will challenge to succeed Horan as President. Jarlath Burns has pinpointed the need, as he sees it, to reduce the size of the Management teams used by county teams. This will obviously form the main plank of his challenge but I don't know what Rock will be fighting on.
The question I would like to ask HS posters is, do we really need a President? The GAA has a well paid Management team in place to grow and develop all facets of the Association. Every President seems to want to pick a particular 'hobby horse' and move heaven and earth to ensure that it is brought to fruition so that they will have made a 'mark' of some kind.

Yeh we need one as much as we need a president of Ireland, chop the hierarchy to a modest amateur status.

I think the President shouldn't be from Dublin

I think it's important to have a president but maybe we could do without some of the numerous committees (and full-time staff) in Croke Park.

Should be done away with, none capable of new direction, reform & real leadership for the Association.

That is a great platform to elect anyone, positive discrimination I assume?

On what basis..........the county is too well run and he may bring these ideas to the outter reaches of Ireland?

That is harsh. It is wrong to paint all Dublin people with the same brush as the current president.
A president should be impartial or at the very least act impartial.
I wasn't surprised by Horan's comments straight after Laois beat Dublin in hurling where he viewed an appetite for a 6 team Leinster group (likely fueled by his fear of Dublin getting caught cold again losing to Laois a second time and being relegated) so expand it by one with no relegation. No discussion on the Munster set-up (should Munster also move to 6 to balance the round robins?, how does relegation/promotion work now?)

As long as the president can act impartially I'm okay with where he/she is from.

There is a massive elephant in the room and having Dublin John the president of Dublin isn't helping

Congress voted in Dublin John. Congress voted against Donegal's motion to bring Dublin out of Croke Park. Sean Kelly approved the funds that flowed into Dublin. He said a few years back that Dublin should be sustainable by now but the flow of funding has remain unchanged. A runaway train. If only we could create an environment for the 3 counties in 1 to compete against each other, assisting a great return on the investment.

Leinster semi-finals:
Meath v North Dublin
South Dublin v Mid Dublin

Would these be hosted as a double header or on separate days?

Both are as about as useful as a ashtray on a motorbike. But both extremely well paid.

You're obsessed with diluting Dublin but if this is an equality issue then you should also be concerned with strengthening other counties like Longford, Carlow, Fermanagh...but for some reason you keep avoiding the question. What are your funding and amalgamation plans for these counties and in the context of all codes of course. We can't just dilute to Dublin to give Kerry a more competitive edge in football now can we?

I wasn't aware that the GAA Presidency is a paid position.
