Coaches will always demand the "percentage play".

Short, effective, accurate passes and shots that have a better than even chance of going over the bar.

Would you rather play pretty and lose or play ugly and win ?

Then double the scale - 2, 3, 6 - and making the 6, a 7 or 8 ?

Even at underage you rarely see any long range score & if someone attempted it, the coach/ manager would lose the plot with them. Skill & fun are been coached out of Gaelic football even for kids. Young men hate the present type of Gaelic football as if you show any spontaneity or deviate from the script the highly paid manager will whip you straight off. Title should read, " The death of Gaelic Football", robotic crap even at club level.

I'd question how many club games you've been to in Galway this year, if you think that's the case. It's been a very enjoyable competition so far, with good scoring and a lot of competitive games. The brand of football played has been very positive in the vast majority of games I've been to.
The change in format has definitely helped too and it's been one of the better championships in quite a while.

Would disagree, most games very defensively set up, most scores coming from frees, lot of mismatches & very little long distance shots, what the thread is about. Great excitement (& achievement) maybe for An Spideal having reached the Qtr finals, but last years county final between the two best clubs in the county was indicative of my point.

On the other hand, there's a school of thought that the sliotar's too light these days and folk are scoring from too far out.

Maybe we all just like to complain.

Isn't that trend changing now in hurling with teams working it through the lines?

Too early to say - maybe we'll get threads about the death of the long range point in hurling next year.

Nevertheless, would you not agree that within the last twelve months we've had comments - if not complaints - about points being scored from too far out in hurling and too close in in football ?

I've lost interest in football big time and don't watch as many games. Hurling however I definitely don't think long range points are an issue. Tackling out the field has become ferocious so there's not so many free shots.
