All Ireland Final - Who You Shouting For?

Replying To Gator:  "Kerry.

I go for the underdog. I don't like to see a period of over dominance. I would have preferred a Mayo v Tyrone final.

In any event, I hope for a competitive game right to the wire. If the Dubs win and win by a landslide I think a bit of our game dies. Last year they won at a canter, if they continue to stretch the gap then it hurts our game. If the Dubs scrape a win by 1-2 points I think we can all be relieved. It's fine to know a team can run them for the duration but so far its proved difficult.

For the record.... I wanted Dublin to win in 2011"
1 out of 6 , you don't like us much then ? -:)

Replying To JoeSoap:  "The main thing I want to see is the result to be in doubt coming into the final few minutes.

I have always had a soft spot for Kerry football though so I will be cheering them on. However I've great admiration for this Dublin team, they are great champions and ambassadors for Gaelic football so I would be happy to see them win the 5 in a row if it came to it."
Agree fully.

If the Dubs get the 5 in a row, I would like to see that they are challenged to the last minute by Kerry for it. If Kerry cannot keep up then its not a good sign for the rest.

Dublin. If they hammer Kerry like they've hammered everyone else in this championship then the GAA might finally have to admit that there's a problem.

Unlikely though, especially with the current leadership.

I'd like to see Dublin win the 5 in a row. Phenomenal team, with a brilliant manager. I suppose the fact that my wife and kids are Dubs is also a contributing factor!

Kerry.

I don't think they are much better than us but they did their bit and that cuteness got them over the line in the semi-final.

I think overall the sport needs a change. A different name on the trophy would help bring back interest in the competition across the country. Dubs probably deserve the 5 in a row. I can live with that but if they go 6,7,8, I think it could be very damaging.

As a cork man and suffering at the hands of kerry on numerous occasions and listening to the select few of their supporters before during and after those games i can never bring myself to even consider shouting for them..i had this debate on the way up to limerick to the hurling under 20 final with a couple lads and we came to the conclucion that every cork person should be shouting for dublin on sunday and if not...they have not been to enough cork v kerry football games down through the years...dublin can win the next 10 all irelands and id still be shouting for them if they were going for 15 in a row should they be playing kerry in the final...nothing against our lovely neighbours tho..COYBIB

I am going for Dublin an exceptional team full of exceptional players. Dublin are going to land the record for most All Irelands won I a row 5. I hope Kerry can give Dublin a game and keep it tight, but with the quality Dublin have up front, if Kerry don't have some defensive system in place it could be 9 or 10 points. But good luck to both Dublin and Kerry looking forward to hopefully a good game.

Very much so... If the same question was asked on, lets say, facebook.. Id get a totally different answer. Maybe its because this forum consists of MAINLY true Gaels who know the sport and can recognize this team for what they are, a truly magnificent once in a lifetime team....as opposed to the wallys on social media who many haven't got a clue about GAA

IT is indeed. I think there are a couple of factors at play.
1. Most neutrals would love to see a a radical shift in the status quo. If Kerry think that the rest of the country are craving a Kerry win on the basis that change is good they are mistaken. Kerry have won 37 times and another Kerry win would just be like a routine changing of the guard. It would be like swapping seats on the Titanic. If Dublin were playing Mayo, Cork, Galway or say Down, then I think most posters would support them rather than the Dubs.
2. I really believe there was a time when Kerry were the aristocrats of football in the sense that could win matches based on skill and athleticism alone. They were tough but not 'dirty'. I think there is a perception that those in influence in Kerry football believed that in order to match the toughness of Tyrone or Donegal that they had to change this perception of themselves as a clean team. Hence the frequency with which recent Kerry teams have got themselves embroiled in brawls and the 'dark arts' in an effort to 'put it up' to other teams. I think it's unthinkable that in the 80s or 90s a Kerry player would fishhook an opponent. This may have altered our perception of them to the point where the tag 'aristocrat' no longer seems appropriate. I mean no offence when I write that it's just that is how I see the evolution of Kerry teams over the the past decade.
3. I don't think HS is representative of the feelings of the country at large. This is a place where debate can get lively and people get defensive of their own counties. Unfortunately some of us go overboard and some of the posts by Kerry posters in particular seemed quite bitter and their claims unjustifiable. As far as I know Cluxton, Jack Mcaffrey, Brian Fenton et al. went to their jobs this morning. They are not professional footballers. Fact. I think it's regrettable also that some Kerry posters believe that a Dublin win spells the end of GAA football. Would they have been saying that in 1982 had the won the five in a row. They went on to win the next three All-Irelands from 83 on. That would have been 9 in a row. Would that have been good for football? The notion that the GAA wants Dublin to keep winning for financial reasons is utter nonsense. Continued Dublin success will affect the gate receipts. If money was the bottom line surely they'd go all out to stop the Dubs
4. The Kerry attempt to raise concerns over the appointment of David Gough left a bad taste in a lot of peoples' mouths.
Kerry fans may feel they have a case but to other fans it seemed like a cynical ploy to influence Gough in advance of the final.
Sin a bhfuil..

Not that surprising to me to be honest. Like someone above said, there's a couple of Kerry posters on here, and I'm sure we'd get on like a house on fire in the real world, who's bitterness towards Dublin is top notch.
Points have been made all year about our advantages, to which I have agreed with to a certain extent, but the lads on here are reaching pathetic levels.
Hence the 'surprising' support for Dublin. I haven't heard whinging like this since my kids were toddlers.

Going to be backing the Dubs as I have been all year. This Dublin set up deserves to go down in the annals of history as the greatest football team of all time. An absolute joy to watch. (Nothing against Kerry in the slightest, we've done quite well from them down the years here in Kildare)

Kerry, then again I went for Kerry against Dublin even in the late 00's and early 10's when Dublin were woefully inconsistent, so I'd never go for Dublin against Kerry when Dublin are dominant
