I think micky will go when he feels the time is right. Will go down as one of the great gaa managers, he comes across a very civil man who had to endure a lot of tragedies but still kept going. As for Sean Cavanagh never liked him as a player but definitely don't like him as pundit. rorysboys (Donegal) - Posts: 2392 - 13/08/2019 17:21:28 2225191 Link 2 |
A stale manager who's best days are behind him. Long may he reign! Samsforthehills (Donegal) - Posts: 1070 - 13/08/2019 17:37:44 2225206 Link 1 |
Harte brought a lot of success to the county but maybe it is time he took his' horse' and headed off into the sunset. There are a lot of good footballers in Tyrone and deserve the opportunity to show they are capable of playing a more open, expansive game even though it has a higher risk than the system they play at the moment. neverright (Roscommon) - Posts: 1648 - 13/08/2019 19:10:33 2225247 Link 0 |
So like Kerry for the past decade?

I would agree with you. Sean Cavanagh always like talking and especially about himself and I find him difficult to listen to- his analysis of games is very poor. When Tyrone won some of the AI's it was the other midfielder that contributed most but Sean did the talking and got the All Star.

Tyrone ,unlike last Sunday, were good enough to beat Kerry in 2005 and 2008.Not easy though and tight enough. When the matches were there to be won,Sean Cavanagh did his shuffle and scored the vital points and Tyrone brought home the cup.

Whatever is said about Sean Cavanagh being a mouth piece I would take him any day over Mulligan. I don't think he's in any place to talk about management given his recent debacle as a manager over the weekend. Shocking scene all together.

I honestly believe the RTE fall out has hurt Tyrone football. Mickey has brought us the best years of Tyrone football there is no doubt about that. Like Harte had the oppertunity to bring his 98 Minor & 01 U21 team to all-Irelands the 2015 management should have been given the same oppertunity. So who started this whole debate? RTE. And we all know what their agenda is. They now have an individual who will give the right answers when asked the right questions. And then we have his fellow pundit OSe going on a similar rant the following day. Mickey is going nowhere. He will get a one year extension to his current contract which runs out next year. It's interesting that Rte are not calling for James Horan's head of Declan Bonners head and both those teams exited championship at a similar of previous stage mayotyroneman (Tyrone) - Posts: 1821 - 17/08/2019 06:46:32 2226669 Link 0 |
O'Neill has now stepped aside, I wonder is a big announcement due this Autumn, in the weeks after the All Ireland final. It looks strange to have two significant members of a background team walk away at the same time. From an outsider it looks like Tyrone are very split which is not a good sign. sam1884 (UK) - Posts: 999 - 19/08/2019 11:37:22 2227415 Link 0 |
More than likely they were informed of mickey decision to give it ONE MORE YEAR. And just left.

If you're correct O'Neill might have thought there is isn't much point having a forward's coach bringing new ideas if these ideas are not allowed to be used in the big games.

It's really informative having posters who haven't a clue mulling over what is going on behind the scenes in the Tyrone camp. Peter Donnelly didn't walk away. He was offered a full time coaching role with Ulster Rugby. Unlike some counties Tyrone does not employ full time coaches. Stephen O'Neill is taking time away to concentrate on his own job as a teacher, and is reportedly completely disgusted and disillusioned with the accusations levelled at him from Kerry last week.

There is always spin with these things but what is true is Tyrone having a forward's coach is like a non-coffee drinker acquiring a coffee machine. Current set up is working miracles in Tyrone with available players but systems won't suit everyone.

Peter Donnelly wasnt offered the job. He had to go apply and go through an interview process so he clearly wasnt happy to stay with the current set up. He also threatened to quit last year as well. I'm sure stevie is sickened by the accusation but that is where the tyrone set up should have came out fighting and ask for proof and defended Stevie. kevin03 (Tyrone) - Posts: 276 - 19/08/2019 17:33:31 2227618 Link 0 |

Kerry have kept quiet on last weeks shenanigans as don't want any distractions. However supposed to be true. Needs to be highlighted as was a shocking stunt and apparently not the first time this stunt has been pulled.

P Donnelly is good at his job. Under his approach, players aren't pumped up or ran into the ground; just optimised for the sport. Tyrone will struggle to match him. S O'Neill leaving is worse. Sure, they can talk about pressures of day job until the cows come home, but you can't shake the nagging suspicion that Stevie's approach wasn't getting the traction it deserved. Hardly coincidental that the forwards coach has left as have a bunch of good forwards. In Tyrone currently, workmate is valued far above talent. essmac (Tyrone) - Posts: 1141 - 19/08/2019 22:24:35 2227705 Link 2 |
If only we had a Mickey harte in Down. The closet we had was Peter McGrath and we haven't recovered since his departure. Be careful...
