"Just Not Enough Good Men" - Brolly on Mayo

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Brolly forever going on about how brilliant this one off Dublin team is ( which they are). and then sticks the boot into the only team to challenge them in the last few years.

Mayo were unlucky that they were competing against this exceptional Dublin team. In another decade they would have won an All Ireland.

Kicking teams when they're down is the lowest form of sports journalism. Loughnane does it a lot too in hurling. Nasty and gratuitous.

Everyone thinks hes an ignorant sleeveen. His knowledge of the game as a pundit is a disgrace. And worst of all he cant stand it when real pundits are talking and constantly interrupts.
Thankfully ive never, and never will read anything he writes, not even today to see what the fuss is."
Why is he good TV? Well suppose it's a matter of taste. I find his way with words amusing, in a comic sense. And of course you can't beat a bit of controversy for good TV.

Mayo football is much bigger than Joe Brolly And will be around long after he is forgotten. A few weeks ago he called Mayo the most important team in Gaelic football....don't really give a crap what he thinks.

I rewatched the game last night

A player I've always admired is Colm Boyle

The face he made coming off the pitch yesterday will stay with me as a very distinctive sporting moment in my minds eye.

The effort this man put in and to see his expression, it was hard to watch if I'm honest.

An Absolute warrior that reminded me so much of that famous Dublin half back line in the 90's.. they were lucky to get one, but Eamon Heary missed out and for as long as I live that fact will piss me off.

I'll feel the same about Colm Boyle if that was his last game.

Brolly should have chosen his words better."
I went to school with Colm....a gentleman who gives his all on the field. Love him. He is a man of a highest standing unlike mr.brolly

Isn't one of the traits of being 'men' that you continue to come back despite adversity. Reached the final in 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, and lost after a replay in semi's in 2014 and 2015, if this isn't showing character, then i don't know what is. Brolly has a trait of turning everything personal and of looking to create headlines to get attention, it's understandable as his analysis of each game is embarrassing and lacks any depth. When covering Dublin, he turns each game into a eulogy about great ambassadors and great people, rather than actual analysis. I'm sure the Dublin players are a nice bunch but they should be analysed on the basis of the incredible team they are not on their personal lives. Joe should run a GAA themed celeb magazines if he is so concerned with off the field activities. I'd also add that when he comes out with this drivel, he is never told to stick to covering the actual game. Joe has put Dublin up on a pedestal as an unbeatable force so wouldn't logic dictate that Mayo didn't get over the line because of who they were facing or is it because 'they aren't good enough men'? I suppose when you speak so much drivel as he does, your bound to trip over yourself.

Its controversy for controversies sake with him. No doubt a little bit of an extra dig considering Horan's relationship with Sky.

When Joe rants on live TV I can give him some leeway in that he has less time to consider what he says, when he puts ink to paper its different. Its sheer punching down. I can't think of another pundit that would do it in such a callous manner.

Just enjoy the result for Dublin and give constructively criticism of Mayo is all that is needed.

In fairness you can't blame Joe, he's a product of his actual profession where you can argue anything no matter how absurd for money

Typically spiteful and hurtful personal comments from Brolly. A stain on our game.

In his profession he needs a judge or jury to believe his lines are true beyond reasonable doubt. When Joe writes for a paper or does punditry a lot of what he says is spoofology based on alleged hearsay. In fairness it's quite the skill to write it while he's patting himself on the back.

I dont mind Joe Brolly, in fact on occasion he can be very insightful, i dont like this personalized stuff though, really there is no need.

To a man/woman in Croke Park on Saturday, you couldn't help but leave with ultimate respect for Mayo, ive never left a Dublin Vs Mayo game in the Championship feeling any different.

Really poor comments, i do however feel Joe likes to create a public nemesis to maintain his own profile, it was Tyrone, but hes hitched his wagon to Mayo now, its very clever they are the biggest narrative out there in GAA, the garner the biggest public interest, they are hugely marketable, with big personalities and a huge support.

Now if you were a media jock who wanted to stay relevant who would you create as your nemesis to get maximum exposure.

It leaves a bad taste in the mouth, but hes doing it for a self serving reason, once you know that you just shrug it off.

He hasn't forgotten about Tyrone, he's giving them both barrels today!

Its not personal though.
Just stating the obvious.

Tyrone's too close for comfort for wee Joe in order to make it personal.

Us supporters don't like to hear our players, managers etc harshly treated by Joe, even when lots of what is says we know to be very accurate. He has been very critical of Galway this past few years, and now has moved on to our biggest rivals. I imagine KW and JH take zero notice of what he has to say. However, I think the dismissive way he treats the new Sunday Game anchor is something that should not be tolerated.

Colm Boyle is an excellent player who always gives his best, I wouldn't pay the slighest bit of notice to anything Brolly says because it's all bs. The saying, if you gave Brolly an enema you could bury him in a matchbox, comes straight to mind.

As other posters have already pointed out, the type of poisonous rubbish is par for the course for Independent newspapers. However it's not acceptable for RTE to continue to employ Barrister Brolly, he should have been cleared out when Michael Lyster retired. Hope Declan McBennett has the balls to do the right thing.

He does spout rubbish but the clearout with Lyster? I think you don't know his age! He was 24 in 1993 so just 50. Not mid 60s. Clear out for bad punditry altight.

There's an answer to this if there going to be personalised attacks on players and managers that cross the line you say fine we're not going to do interviews pre match, post match, man of the match.no f******g communication whatsoever from our county with your organisation going forward.

Spot on there. Boyle is a real warrior. Outstanding player and so consistent. Hope he stays on next year.
