"Just Not Enough Good Men" - Brolly on Mayo

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Replying To Ulsterman:  "He gets far too personal with individual players and that's not on. Having said that Mayo will be remembered like the Dublin side of Ciaran Whelan. Good footballers but didn't have the inner belief or streetwise nastiness to get over the line. Step back from Brolly's flowery language and the main point he is making is correct."
That's not true. There was plenty of belief in that team, they were very unlucky in 2016. 2 freak goals is what stopped them that year. 2017 Dublin were just the better team, with a far better bench aswel. 2012 and 13 they were also beaten by a better team.

Not sure what streetwise nastiness would have done to help.

I'd counter that and say look at the pro Dublin stories Roy Curtis comes up with for independent newspapers, he uses huge words and metaphors that make no sense to show his love for them. So it works both ways

Replying To updwell:  "Brolly and all of us should be thmaking Mayo for putting up some resistance to this great Dublin team. In 2018 when Mayo were gone early we saw how poor the championship was. Brolly bears on about amateuris but criticises players to a professional standard. He loves to question manleness in plyers but he himself didn't play football in a manly way."
Agreed updwell. Brolly way over the top with his criticism of Mayo players.

It is the GAA top brass who Brolly should attack. The match should not have been played in Croke park, it should have been played in Thurles.

It's a disgrace the way he goes after certain people and teams, especially when they're obviously still hurting.

Brolly been belittling teams and players for years, giving the excuse he talks the way the normal supporter does. That Mayo team is full of players with heart and do not deserve such assinine analysis. If this Dublin team proves themselves to be greatest of all time, than mayo running them so close in the last few years was the sign of a great team. Brolly enjoys personalising his attacks and was not in same class as many of the players he has attacked in a one eyed manner over the years.

Wee Joe better stay out of that county for a few months,
A very weak pot-shot in a desperate aim for some attention due to his faltering popularity over the years,

I am not talking about Dublin, we have the embarressing Blue gushing from Indo sister rag the Herald, just in general the Indo is a nasty rag - whether they are gushing or spitting is irrelevant - they a rag.

Not generally correct Ulsterman, certainly not this year, and certainly not against Dublin. I can think of their shocking performance against Donegal perhaps, as an example of when the team genuinely bottled it, but other than that they've had the misfortune to be the best Mayo side since the '50s who happened to peak at the same time as the best Dublin team of all time.

He changes like the wind. Alternately loves and hates Donegal. He loves to throw in the wee soundbites about how he was talking to some high profile person in the county that week, because he's so important!

Replying To realdub:  "I like Brolly because he's good TV but he's completely out of line with some of his over the top comments. Mayo are to be totally respected as both men and footballers."
Why is he good tv? I and anybody i know cant stand the clown. Every time he appears the channel is turned or volume muted in my local. Same at home. Everyone thinks hes an ignorant sleeveen. His knowledge of the game as a pundit is a disgrace. And worst of all he cant stand it when real pundits are talking and constantly interrupts.
Thankfully ive never, and never will read anything he writes, not even today to see what the fuss is.

Not nice.

I rewatched the game last night

A player I've always admired is Colm Boyle

The face he made coming off the pitch yesterday will stay with me as a very distinctive sporting moment in my minds eye.

The effort this man put in and to see his expression, it was hard to watch if I'm honest.

An Absolute warrior that reminded me so much of that famous Dublin half back line in the 90's.. they were lucky to get one, but Eamon Heary missed out and for as long as I live that fact will piss me off.

I'll feel the same about Colm Boyle if that was his last game.

Brolly should have chosen his words better.

Another unnecessarily nasty comment from Brolly, to undo the odd bit of good punditry he does. He was also lucky to be involved with Derry in the straight knockout era, otherwise Kerry and Dublin would have come back from the dead to beat Derry, or delay their peak performances, like they've done to Mayo so much recently. I'd fancy recent Mayo teams to beat his Derry teams any day of the week

Perhaps an effort may be made tonight to attempt an apology to the people of Mayo.?
