Mayo V Donegal. Winner Takes All

Great game in prospect.

On the face of it Donegal should be favourites but Mayo looked tired today after a long run of games & the two week rest will do them the world of good not to mention having home advantage.

On the other hand the gap will give Donegal a chance to get some of the wounded back to health.

Could go Mayo's way if they start with ferocious intent, but Donegal can beat them as they've more quality. Hope we get through it injury free, and win.

It would be very much like Mayo to absolutely demolish Donegal after a load of unconvincing performances.

I doubt it will happen though especially with McGrath, McGee etc back in the team.

I'd have to fancy Donegal, they a class outfit ahead of Mayo, who look tired jaded and really lacking upfront. Donegal have everything, really impressed by them v Kerry and in Michael Murphy a super player.

If it were any other county coming into this game on Mayo's form I'd bet the house on Donegal. But since it's feckin Mayo I'll only bet the car. Donegal by 5 for me.

Mayo are a very weird team, I wouldn't write them off against donegal in a knockout game. They haven't set the championship alight like donegal, but todays results suits them more than Donegal. A two week rest, a home game on a Saturday evening (even though form is terrible in Castlebar), some key players returning (Diarmuid o'connor, Durkan and Higgins) and championship knockout football. I still think donegal have the advantage by 2/3 points when you take the above into consideration but there won't be a lot between them.

Be a good one this ,both teams should be almost at full strength and have a much needed rest especially mayo after the amount of consecutive games ,I'm expecting a fiery encounter and i can see a much fresher mayo turn up with the energy that Durkan Higgins and Ruane brings to the team will be a huge bonus for them but I think Donegal with Murphy just have that bit more quality and I think they will get the result in a close fought game ,Donegal by 2

Can't see anything other than a Donegal win. Until today I still had questions about how good Donegal are but they answered that.

Add to that Mayos home record is terrible.

Donegal by 5.

Overall, winning the league and bringing through a number of good young players it has been a positive year for a squad in transition. Not winning Connacht was the big disappointment. Few defenders need to be introduced next year.

Donegal have really impressed this year some absolute class players. All the questions are Mayo's to answer, on form Donegal all the way but this is Mayo and they've bounced back so many times they'll also have ferocious support behind then. With plenty Donegal fans travelling should be a great atmosphere. I really can't see beyond this Donegal team winning though

Apparently AOS going into a cast in the morning after today. That said he, DOC, Ruane, durkan, and Higgins should be fit. Donegal should have lads back too bar ban Gallagher so both teams should be basically full strength- if the lads coming back will have the required sharpness etc. Mayo home record is not great and if against any other team may well prefer Crocker but have a good enough record v Donegal in Castlebar. However based on two games today Donegal have to be strong favourites. Youth, pace and experience- murphy- all over the field. Mayo looked like a team that are spent though the oldest man on the field, Andy Moran- might suggest otherwise. If mayo happened to beat Donegal, which I just can't see happening, I fear Dublin could destroy them in a semi. Either way I think it might be the last yr we see a number of elder mayo players as they don't seem to have enough young lads coming through to make the more senior players believe the holy grail is within grasp. I can see Galway- with a change of mnanager- dominating connacht for the foreseeable.
