The two best refs in ire are both Meath men. Lots of the others could learn a thing or two from them.

I was at the match and Donegal were clearly the better team. I do think that Tyrone will make the super 8's and I'd fancy them to progress - time will tell. However as a non-Meath man, I thought the refereeing was a bit one-sided. I definitely noted several occasions where the ball was lifted straight off the ground, and Matty Donnelly's jersey was well tested for flexibility in the first half. At the end of the day though Donegal deserved their day in the sun - Enjoy!

By far the best ref in the country, he implements the rules and misses very little

Would be inclined to agree with this

Get off your knees! I wouldnt let Gough near my kids under 10 match. His marker could eye gauche him and stamp on him for good measure and still be on the field for another act of thuggery if he wanted.

They will be described as Dubs some how though.

Too much inconsistency in the application of the rules for my liking. From the black card he gave to the ones he didn't. For the number of infringements missed to some of the ones given. Nah, when he refs it's all about Davy!

Yes best ref in the country..got a big call wrong in sending off peter Harte...however that doesn't make him a bad ref...

Agreed and the best thing about it is they will always be free to referee major finals and semi finals.

I was thinking during the game, I never see a bad match when a Meath ref is in charge. This is a compliment - is it due to Meath football being traditionally more physical? They allow the game to flow, allow fair but hard tackles and don't blow the whistle for any little touch. They never seem to fall for diving or other antics aimed at gaining an advantage. Yes last night Gough missed the "fingers in mouth" incident but he geniunely missed it which is why the CCCC have a policy to revisit these things. Meath club football must be great to watch if it's how games are controlled. Nowadays you can look at who the GAA assign to ref a game and make a decision if you should go or watch based on that decision. Most refs are whistle, card happy which ruins a game. Whatever is happening in Meath they're producing the best in the country.

Might be a biased/isolated incident but my mind is cast back to Eoin Doyle being sent off with two yellows vs Donegal last year by Gough.
First yellow was for no gumshield, fair. Upon getting this yellow, Doyle ran towards the sideline to get a gumshield. The play was let go on and Doyle was kicked the ball en route to the sideline by unknowing players. Second yellow given for Doyle catching the ball that was kicked to him.
Kildare have had a host of bad refereeing decisions given against them but for me that one takes the biscuit and really put a seal on our division 1 fortunes.

Ah janey, all your 512 refs are in the same boat.

He got a number of calls wrong in Mayo v Roscommon recently including allowing a Mayo point to stand that was a clear wide and giving the Home team a free at the end of the match to equalise that was never a free.Didn't think Peter Harte should have been black carded yesterday. The overall standard of refereeing is poor in Gaa matches.Don't think Gough is the best ref in the country at all.

I loved the way he let play continue. If more refs were like him the game would be so much more enjoyable. He gets himself into good positions and if the ball is turn over and he's caught further up the field he has the fitness to get back. Top class.

Meath need these great refs to compensate for the lack of titles on the field, but it is nice for them all the same. I think Goff and his assistants let too much go when you consider the Mc Cann badness. Shocking stuff.
