Ah :) It was just a bit of banter. I do feel there is a perception in Munster that their championship is more important/better than the Leinster one. KK are in a final after beating Cork and Limerick. They lost to Galway and drew with Wexford. skirge7 (UK) - Posts: 254 - 27/07/2019 22:04:43 2217299 Link 1 |

They also beat Dublin and Carlow and crucially Carlow by a lot more that six points. Galway were after being held to a draw by Carlow in the League and it was criminal for them to beat them by so little in Salthill. Funnily if they had beaten Dublin and to KK they would have come through.

Got that right, although goals didn't win it for Tipp in the end.

They sure have!! That's what the killer is.... they aren't a outstanding KK team compared to previous KK teams, Galway beat them ok LK couldn't beat them but when you look back in hindsight this All Ireland was there for the taking.... The main men for both KK & Tipp are all 30+years!!! I guess Oldtourman one can't beat experience, what!! katser (Galway) - Posts: 2553 - 02/08/2019 14:49:06 2219790 Link 0 |
Experience did not much of a difference in last years final

It is probably true to say there is no such thing as a bad hurler in Kilkenny. Their ability to win with an average team is uncanny. This particular team in particular. They are not a better team than Cork or Limerick but are in the All-Ireland and will probably win it. Their ability in a game to hold in there when their backs are getting ripped a part and the same players then storm into the game. If that was us we would have conceded 5 goals in that period. This average team will become house hold names in the years ahead. The same was true of the last great team. They were not barn burners at the beginning either. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 3026 - 03/08/2019 13:57:27 2220071 Link 0 |

Kilkenny v Tipperary. Tipp 1-5. Byanthon (Tyrone) - Posts: 1792 - 06/08/2019 12:24:43 2221550 Link 0 |
I agree this team is "average" relatively speaking, since around 2015. I wouldn't rank the 2010-2014 team as average. Mediocre goalie at the start in David Herity, replaced by Eoin Murphy. Brilliant FB line, JJ at FB, Tyrell left corner, Paul Murphy in his prime right corner; ok-ish HB line (Tommy on the wane after 2013, his bro Pádraig took over after that, Brian Hogan an underrated CB, bit of a mish-mash on the left after JJ moved to FB although Kieran Joyce did win all Ireland final motm there one year if memory serves). Excellent midfield (the machine that was Michael Fennelly ably assisted by Conor Fogarty). Forwards were a mix of brilliant veterans coming to the end (Shefflin, Brennan, Larkin) and outstanding younger players hitting their prime (Hogan, Power, Reid). But as an unit, no, wouldn't call them average. And they did win 4 All Irelands in that era (if you count 2015). Depends what you define as average, I suppose. ballydalane (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1256 - 08/08/2019 00:03:33 2222529 Link 0 |
That particular team were not average but did not become great over night. Once that happened in my opinion were the greatest ever. My point is the present one is average but don't take that as your guide to beating them. Average now but down the road ?

Since this prediction thread is gone to the dogs....I'm going to predict Colin Fennelly to continue his macho celebration of immediately stopping and puffing the chest out every time he scores...should he score of course! He looks like a lad that has moved a mountain and expected everyone to sit up and take notice! tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 10/08/2019 04:15:55 2223261 Link 0 |
