Replying To OpenStand:  "Kilkenny on Sunday unusual location for league semi finals.
Cant see a very big crowd there, Limerick will bring half what would go to Thurles which will still probably be the biggest of the 4 teams. Dublin have poor hurling support, Waterford average recently and its the guts of 3 hours from galway city to Kilkenny??
18,000 be a reasonable guess."
Very poor attendance in Kilkenny 13,225. Would have been a lot more in Thurles .
Bringing two munster teams to Croke Park for final next week will not work either , an unnecessary cost for those that might like to go .
A double header with Camogie Kilkenny v Galway in Thurles would be far more accessible and cheaper for fans .

The hurling league semi should be a home match to whoever finished higher on the league table and I'd say the league final should be a neutral match between the two counties.

Can't believe for the first time in years the Division 2 final has been taken from it's traditional slot with the Div 1 final and changed to the Saturday. And just as meath get there. I would have loved to see the Div 1 football final.

Mayo attendance was superb. Best fans in the country. Imagine how big their support would be if their population was a million.

7,300 Cavan v Dublin
Anybody know the Meath v Fermanagh attendance? Don't understand how it's not publicised anywhere.

Bringing Mayo and Kerry to Croker won't aid the attendances - limerick or probably more appropriate Galway's Salthill stadium may be more suitable

The Gaelic grounds would be a great venue for it. The only thing saving next Sundays league finals will be Mayo. The whole attendance wont break 20,000. Kerry wont travel, a thousand max, limerick will bring 5, Waterford 3, Mayo 8, leaves 3 thousand walk ups..

Think it's a double header with the Hurling Final and Mayo will bring huge numbers as always.

Great support but in fairness if their population was 1m they would have many more sports at a competitive level to pacify the hearts and minds of their public. Comparing apples with oranges.

It was over 0.5m in 1841... more than Dublin's (the last time it was). The way things are going it'll be lucky if in 20 years time the population of the country outside Dublin might only just match Dublin's... and a good portion of that will be geographically in Meath, Kildare and Wicklow (it already is)... all of those Dubs supporters born and bred outside Dublin. The structures of the game will have changed by then... money will ensure it!

Agree Horse... two Western teams going to the East to play and on Mother's Day too!. If I go (and I'd love to obviously) there'll be a price to pay, and it won't just be financial!! Wonder did the GAA consider that or am I just a wuss?!

Apparently poor state of the pitch in thurles is the reason for the games not been there, pairc ui caoimh would have been the only other option for next week. On today's crowd esstiantly now the hurling year is 2 leagues followed by the all ireland series so not as much weight is on the league as previous times and the attendances is a knock on of this

Nothing wrong with the pitch in Thurles . Like the country itself the GAA want everything in Dublin with an odd gig like yesterday in Kilkenny for one of their Yes people.

Bottom line plenty of Waterford and Limerick fans will have an expensive day out or more likely many of them won't go but once the Croke Park hob nobs are ok who cares ??

I agree with you. Kerry Mayo should be somewhere along the Atlantic coast. And no your not a wuss. A reasonable consideration given the day that is in it.

You have most of them already but just to put them together -

Division 1
Mayo Monaghan 13,287
Cavan Dublin 7,311
Tyrone Galway 5,115
ROSCOMMON KERRY 4,000

Division 2
MEATH FERMANAGH 6,500
ARMAGH CORK 3,425
TIPPERARY CLARE 1,431

Fair play to Armagh GAA for donating all their gate receipts from the game, and the proceeds from the half-time draw, to the Friends of Kieran fundraising campaign. What a great gesture, well done Armagh

Croke Park outside of the Dublin home league games and these finals will see very little inter county action for 7/8 months of the year. How many times do you anticipate Limerick and Waterford playing there this year? I'd say 2 or 3 maximum if it's a very good year. So it's not like fans are being asked to/given the chance to go there too often.

I'm not sure what the obsession is with not playing games in croke park. These are national finals and it's our national stadium. It's by far and away the best ground in the country and the players love playing there. Also with the road's its not that long a journey up from Limerick these days.

GAA fans are the worst in the world for giving out about fixtures and venues. Always seem to be finding excuses not to go. Over in England fans travel hundreds of miles week after week and pay a lot more money and I'm sure there isn't the same complaints.

2 .5 hours travel to Dublin on the train and Iv no problem going to Croke Park. It's just not the novelty officialdom think it is. Fine big stadium but its creature comforts arent as good as Thompnd park and I go there once a month. Keep Croke Park for the real big days...and every Dublin match of course.

41,000 attending the last round between division 1 and 2. Not bad.

No problem with championship semi final etc but a league final in Thurles would be far more convenient for many fans and Croke Park is a 6-7 hour round trip for many back west Limerick and more expensive

Pitch looked in a bad state for Tipperary Dublin last week

Only tickets for lower levels on sale at present ?
Doesn't indicate a massive crowd been expected to travel to Dublin from the regions .
Still reckon moving the fixture from Thurles to Dublin will have halved the amount from Limerick and Waterford in attendance . Also Kerry in particular will not travel for a league final to Dublin despite the fact Kerry could get 12,000 in Tralee or Killarney for a home league game .
