Hey folks. A question popped in to my head last night watching the Sunday Game. Has a player from the losing team in an All Ireland Final ever won Man of the Match in the final? croker16 (Louth) - Posts: 349 - 20/08/2018 13:24:45 2134729 Link 0 |
Michael Lyster fairly gave the game away last night. Triple H (Meath) - Posts: 551 - 20/08/2018 14:18:03 2134805 Link 0 |
Padraig Kelly of Galway won the award after losing to Kilkenny - can't remember the exact year.

A 'loser' and a 'winner' in the same match!

I was at the game, can't remember anything about the man of the match. Kilkenny won 2-17 to 1-15. But here is the All Stars team for that year: GK Michael Walsh Kilkenny RCB Eddie O'Connor Kilkenny FB Seán O'Gorman Cork LCB Liam Simpson Kilkenny RWB Liam Dunne Wexford CB Pat O'Neill Kilkenny LWB Pádraig Kelly Galway MD Pat Malone Galway MD Paul McKillen Antrim RWF Martin Storey Wexford CF John Power Kilkenny LWF D. J. Carey Kilkenny RCF Michael Cleary Tipperary FF Joe Rabbitte Galway LCF Barry Egan Cork Cockney_Cat (UK) - Posts: 2776 - 20/08/2018 20:58:47 2135009 Link 0 |
Jez that's mad Clare beat Cork in a Munster semi final and they land two all stars. Tipp wallop Clare and get one all star. Probably based over the trilogy of league finals v Wexford. They lost league and Leinster finals after replays if I'm wrong correct me. That Pat Malone was some beast too think he was a doubt for that final right up until the final hours before throw in and he had some game as well. PJ Delaney was probably unlucky too not to win man of the match think he got 1-03 from play. Not too sure about football if anyone ever got man of the match from a losing team but I'd say a few lads came close from Down in 2010 after losing to Cork. If Peter Canavan didn't get it in 1995 no losing player ever will, Canavan really should have won MOTM he scored 11 of his teams 12 scores and was the best player on the pitch by a mile. GeniusGerry (Kerry) - Posts: 2113 - 21/08/2018 00:04:31 2135105 Link 3 |
Daniel Goulding scored 9 points in that final, out of Cork's total of 0-16. Don't think anyone got near him for Man of the Match. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5246 - 21/08/2018 05:15:05 2135114 Link 0 |
I know it wasn't a final but Michael Meehan got the man of the match against ourselves back in the quarter final in 2008 and he was on the losing team, I think he scored 10 points for Galway that day in the monsoon. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 21/08/2018 12:02:36 2135203 Link 2 |
The one to top the list is in 1994 Brian Whelehan won the hurler of the year award but failed to win an all star!! jkiamasnake (Galway) - Posts: 81 - 24/08/2018 18:36:02 2136395 Link 1 |
