I feel there's something wrong with a Championship structure that allows a team to be knocked out of the All-Ireland by a team they beat in the provincials. I know this is nothing new and has happened since 2001 but I would be gutted if I were a Monaghan fan. Under the Super Eight system it's probably more likely to happen again. He did point out the Tyrone runner distracting the free taker, twice he came pretty close to the kicker.

It's happened many times via backdoor system so not sure why the super 8s has any additional influence on this???

Tyrone lucky to win in my opinion.Ref was poor and seemed to favour Tyrone. What was Beggan at ? Monaghan had time to work the ball in for an equaliser and he shoots from 60 yards? Daft. Barnowl94 (Galway) - Posts: 3150 - 12/08/2018 17:39:46 2132316 Link 0 |
Tyrone beat Armagh in '05 semi after Armagh beat them in Ulster final. Has been happening for almost 20 years now.

Cagey affair, and at times dull and I was at the game . Monaghan could not score from play and relied totally on Tyrone giving away frees and back chat to the ref ..childish behaviour, grow up Tyrone lads... We have five decent players , Cavanagh, Donnelly , sluggen, Harte, McCann. The rest are dodgy as anything with Micky playing a system to make up for that , our full back line are that bad we need to put in our best midfielder in the square- Cavanagh to cover . Dublin have no dodgy players , there lies the problem , but it's been 10 years since our last final and congrats to the team. You never know what could happen on the day. Hard luck farney , caused us serious headache and personally I thought were better in possession and less likely to commit howlers unlike ourselves . cacsmckilly (Tyrone) - Posts: 1294 - 12/08/2018 17:51:59 2132327 Link 0 |
Enjoyable game overall. Pity the referee was not more experienced. A lot of poor calls took away from the flow of the match. Tyrone did some wonderful defending and had that little more composure in front of goals. Monaghan were a joy with some of their play and will rue some choices made. Overall a game that restores s little confidence in where football is currently. Perhaps Tyrone can put it up to the Dubs... carlowman (Carlow) - Posts: 1870 - 12/08/2018 17:55:12 2132328 Link 0 |
Colm Cavanagh who was outstanding all game today gets the ball in the 2nd half runs straight into a Monaghan man throws his legs up in the air (diving) and gets a free in hard to believe, James McCarthy does the same thing yesterday without the dive and is given a free out for barging, basically the referee is telling all players to dive now cause if you're honest you get punished , shocking call and imo the ref gave some shockers against Monaghan. Not having blinkers on cause will hammer Tyrone in the final so I didn't care who won. clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 12/08/2018 17:56:12 2132329 Link 7 |
So what about the free kicker being distracted? They're all big boys out there. It happens in every game. Maybe if our lads start throwing gps trackers at the free taker they will get jobs with rte after they're done playing. His comments on the frees given calls were all sympathetic in favor of Monaghan and that Tyrone got soft frees. Plus he's always using American sports metaphors like "full court press" and today I even heard one of these guys say a player was playing "in the pocket" about Colm Cav,I think it was Dessie,I threw up a little bit in my mouth :) seanie_boy (Tyrone) - Posts: 4235 - 12/08/2018 17:59:02 2132332 Link 1 |
You can't mention diving in a Monaghan game and not mention Conor McManus! He's a class act but he's the worst in the country for diving. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5244 - 12/08/2018 18:01:12 2132336 Link 2 |
Look at Comer's goal from yesterday and tell me Dublin don't have any dodgy players.

Typical cliched anti Tyrone post - it was a tight match and the marginally better team win - these 2 fine counties put up a better game today v yesterday. You sound like a guy who never played the game!!!!

Look at page 11 ; Neymar ain't got nothing on these boys today.

Dublin might have got caught for that goal and are definitely not without flaws but what they have is 5 subs that will come on that would walk into the Monaghan or Tyrone starting team. That in there lies the difference and will make the difference in this final and over the next few years. Past hurler (None) - Posts: 907 - 12/08/2018 18:24:00 2132351 Link 1 |
Fair enough. Like I said, he is a class act. Worth about 5 points to Monaghan that no other forward currently playing would be. But he always throws in a dive or 2 - suppose it up to referee or linesmen to spot it. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5244 - 12/08/2018 18:29:23 2132353 Link 0 |
Tyrone got some soft frees, and Monaghan got some soft frees too. Ref did fine lads. Cavanagh and Hughes both manufactured a couple of soft ones in anyways. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13792 - 12/08/2018 18:37:29 2132358 Link 2 |
I was up in Omagh 3 weeks ago the Tyrone people couldn't of been nicer they gave us a great welcome I'm not anti at all I'm just calling it as I see it. Will win either way if it was Monaghan or Tyrone I really couldn't care who we face were just too strong for either team.

I played the game alright waynol will back me up on that one as I gave him evidence of who my former team mate was with my club. It's just my opinion I thought Monaghan were the better team I don't get what I said was so anti Tyrone

Interesting in the form of proof you have but I believe you and waynol. Facts are Tyrone missed so many easy chances in game and contrary to Lee Keegan had as many of not more goal chances. Monaghan were in lead for 2 minutes in whole game. Not sure how you think the way you do? In saying all that I'm a big fan of Monaghan and ORourke - to do what they've done with this team in past 5 years is extraordinary. They have one of the smallest panels in Div 1 and compete both in league and championship - Tyrone were tested big time here and will stand to them for the final. They need to polish up on their finishing and try and perfect this high line game - they have the fitness to play his way - whether or not it's enough for Dubs remains to be seen.
