After that confidence booster today in Ballybofey I really can't see Monaghan stopping us from getting to the final now. I was impressed with them in Healy earlier in the year but Tyrone have moved up several gears since then. A tight enough game in store I'd say but again I think the power of our bench will help us pull away in the last 10-15 mins. bigboon (Tyrone) - Posts: 50 - 05/08/2018 20:16:16 2129625 Link 0 |
You're really not streets ahead of anyone to be getting the big Head. I was at Dublin Tyrone last August, maybe you missed that..

If we beat Tyrone three times in one year we get to keep them. Knoxboya (Monaghan) - Posts: 368 - 05/08/2018 21:56:35 2129704 Link 5 |
This is a fabulous match to look forward too. It couldn't be better. Two ulster teams in Croke Park in an all Ireland semi final. I was talking to one of my friends across the shough in Tyrone this evening. His words were... A powerful spectacle it will be for ulster football.. May the best team win... The one that can rattle the Dubs... Monaghans best chance ever. We probably would have preferred Donegal. border Gael (Monaghan) - Posts: 906 - 05/08/2018 22:18:59 2129721 Link 0 |
Great clash ahead. The three best Ulster teams over the past 10 years get through to the Super 8,s and it can all come down to on the day. Tyrone have improved this year with every passing game and after Dublin Mickey Harte has shown how to use a big strong panel to best effect. The only unfortunate thing is that Monaghan have also impressed with the impact of their subs. Tyrone have lost their last two Ulster Championship clashes to Monaghan but have won the only three Championship clashes at Croke Park a ground Tyrone are very comfortable with. Tyrone's fitness is frighting at this stage and it looks like they have tailored this run to the Semi-Final perfectly. Again it looks much the same for Monaghan unlike Donegal who may have suffered for winning out in Ulster and having a break. Very close but Tyrone to win it in the last 20 minutes and join Dublin in the final. Byanthon (Tyrone) - Posts: 1792 - 06/08/2018 08:35:02 2129845 Link 0 |
Watching the match yesterday, I was hoping Tyrone would win as Donegal looked a much more dangerous outfit for much of the game. But Tyrone looked a different beast between the 60th and 70th minutes - a real clutch performance. SwissFarney (Monaghan) - Posts: 11 - 06/08/2018 10:27:26 2129890 Link 0 |

Should be a very interesting match, I think Tyrone really turned the screw on us from about 50 minutes in and we looked out on our feet yes but Tyrone's intensity, tackling and general play went up a notch and we couldn't live with it. I wouldn't expect the same thing to happen to Monaghan so I don't think Tyrone can afford to let them get 4 in front. JoeSoap (Donegal) - Posts: 1432 - 06/08/2018 11:26:04 2129912 Link 2 |
Its been a great year for Ulster football. We have three top counties who can compete with the best. It has to be best province in Ireland for its competitiveness and entertainment levels. Two Ulster teams in the Semi Final, lethal. Game2Halves (Tyrone) - Posts: 265 - 06/08/2018 12:00:19 2129927 Link 1 |
I'm delighted that Tyrone are going in to this as favourites. That suits Monaghan. farney_exile (Monaghan) - Posts: 71 - 06/08/2018 13:13:56 2129981 Link 3 |
Might be something to do with fact they have won 3 all Irelands 10.years ago with a great team under same manager and most pundits are convinced this side is the second coming. To be fair they looked v impressive in last 20 yesterday and Lee Brennan is a class act who will require a bit of watching from our defence. It is good we are underdogs here as most people expect a Tyrone Dublin final and that will bring its own pressures to tyrone and a lot of their younger players so plenty of motivation for our lads to tear up the script in their first ever all Ireland semi final.

Donegal are far from a poor team in fairness. And it seems like a long time ago but a lot of people were giving Roscommon a chance in their game against Tyrone as they were in good form at the time and playing well. Add in 3 all-irelands under Mickey Harte and the face the they have gotten the better of us several times, especially in croke park in the last 6-7 years and it's pretty understandable why they would be favorites. A team like Monaghan will always have their doubters until they win it all and prove that they truly belong at the top table. white.n.blue (Monaghan) - Posts: 249 - 06/08/2018 15:10:42 2130052 Link 0 |
What teams did you beat again to get into the super 8? The fact is that Tyrone are a much more successful county than Monaghan, both currently and traditionally and that is why we are favourites. Rightly or wrongly a county is judged on its success and how much silverware they have. Monaghan have very little while Tyrone are coming down with minor, u-21 and senior titles. Also Tyrone have a 100% record against Monaghan in Croke Park. Now I am not saying that we are definitely going to win next weekend but it is obvious why we are favourites. Monaghan will only be given the favourites tag in a match like this after they prove that they can beat Tyrone or another top county in Croker and to date yous have flattered to deceive. Fair enough. Monaghan have a 100% record against Tyrone this year. greysoil (Monaghan) - Posts: 965 - 06/08/2018 19:21:38 2130134 Link 1 |
Your so right. They've beaten nothing in this years championship in comparison to us. I wouldn't be counting my chickens until their hatched here. There's a simple reason why they are favourites. Tyrone have beaten us in the championship in Croke Park on a few occasions over the last 10 years border Gael (Monaghan) - Posts: 906 - 06/08/2018 19:29:22 2130139 Link 0 |
According to most pundits all Tyrone have to do is show up and a Dublin/Tyrone final is already decided. That will do just fine.

To be honest what gets to me most is the cringe worthy love in with some teams certain media have and a witchhunt against others. From the off I have always acknowledged that Monaghan currently are a good side, are seasoned have a clever manager and are proven. Okay they have to advance further but still their progress is noteworthy. However the likes of O'Rourke loves Monaghan now except what he does not understand is they play like most teams. Last Saturday while fully deserving of their win they like the teams O'Rourke and Brolly mauls I.e Galway and Tyrone play more or less the same. Brolly has had it in for Tyrone since god's time while O'Rourke was slow to acknowledge our final win over them in 2001 and the years intervening have proven this. O'Rourke in his indo article saying it would be good for the game if Monaghan win Sam. Of course it would. In actual fact it would be good if any of three of the remaining sides won Sam to prevent ongoing football dominance as much as I admire what the Dubs have achieved.

Hugh Cahill on "game On", just asked Bernard Flynn, " if Tyrone beat Monaghan, are they good enough to beat Dublin" ? ....... typical!
