Which Is Best GAA Or Rugby ?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Association football is the best of the lot, nothing better than supporting an EL side in Europe or Ireland abroad. What equivalent is there in GAA, or even rugby, playing 5 European teams every year as oppossed to the possibility of 53 European teams for a qualifier, ye cant even compare the 6.5 nations to a Euro champs.

How anyone can claim that rugby is better than football, hurling or soccer is beyond me. Most boring sport ever - Munster won the Heineken Cup because their fat lads were better than pushing than the fat lads on the other team. How can a sport be any good where kicking the ball out of play is actually seen as progress is beyond me.

Considering rugby as a global game, it doesn't compare with almost any other global sport - there are even more people worldwide that prefer cricket to rugby. Within Ireland, there are only about 4 areas of the country where it is treated even half seriously - how can you compare it to GAA?

If things continue as they have been in Cork for the last few years we will have no GAA players in a few years they are all going to play sports that they are paid for Damien Delaney / Soccer ... Tomas O'Leary / Rugby ... The O'Alpin brothers / Aussie Rules .... etc etc

Would you blame them for switching sports ?

People really are suckered in by the sky sports hype machine, its sad. The champions league was on in our house last night, Manchester and Celtic both 0-0, a painfully boring evening of 'sport'

Daytona - Rugby is the sport for all shapes and sizes or at least it was.

Enjoy both pretty much on a par with each other but a really good GAA match is leagues ahead of a great Rugby match.
Even in great rugby matches one team can slow the game down much easier than in football.
The speed and excitement of Dublin-Meath, Cork-Kerry, Armagh-Tyrone games, for example, is unequaled in any sport.

Not a big Hurling fan so have excluded it.

Pronane, have you nothing better to do than come with yet another rhetorical question. The answer is that nothing compares to Gaelic Games. Our own games!

Not at all Seal. But 15 soccer players would have done a better job in the championship than you 15 Meath "Footballers" this year!!!

You have to laugh, 2nd and 3rd rate GAA county sides berating rugby for being too limited in terms of competition. Soccer is a rich pursuit best left to oligarchs with no respect for human rights, and prols with no sense, other than those who are paid well over the odds to play one of the most boring games on the face of creation. Deary me, I hope I haven't come across as being biased against the tedious brigade.

Goal, how can you say that soccer is more exciting than hurling???? Hurling has gotta be one of the most exciting sports to watch in the world!

As for the guy who started this thread:

(1) You could be right in a way. Rugby is never as exciting as hurling but it could come close to football in my opinion.
(2) It's a pretty pointless argument to put up on a forum designed for and filled with GAA fans.
