My management team from these would be, T McEntee, Poacher, and Mulholland. James has had his turn leave him to the minors. Pete the legend i believe is to old now should go back to club football. Adams is a club manager at best decent coach tho. Deegan, not another job for the boys of 91/94 done nothing at club level like burns. McLver would not be totally against him as he would get the brannigans out playing. Whoever takes over needs us to be playing better football lets get away from 13 behind the ball that cavan match was pure shite to watch. We also need a decent forwards coach so maybe Marty could be part of management team, this is a massive decision for the county board we can't go through another 3 years of shit. Getting promotion has to happen in the first year no question if not its a failure straight away, the players our there and that was a big problem this year with players walking away. Pete is the only man with any sort of pedigree and proven record. Players need to be picked from a wider range of clubs instead of the usual " favourites" - wish the hurlers had as big a choice. As for forwards, a good forward needs very little coaching as you can't teach a naturally talented player, the kind that win matches. Down have been a disgrace for last ten years and need a good dungin' out. Galgetgael (Down) - Posts: 218 - 06/07/2018 19:23:17 2119195 Link 0 |

Paddy Tally's your man. That's if he's even interested. All the other suggestions are complete bluffers or 'old skool'. ParisHilton (Down) - Posts: 41 - 07/07/2018 19:41:49 2119413 Link 0 |

Conor O Toole needs to be involved in the next set up. This is the man that knows all the young footballers in the county and has seen them all come through development squads. We need to be tapping into this information. The fact he is also a very well respected coach too is a bonus. In_da_ditch (UK) - Posts: 165 - 08/07/2018 10:09:56 2119521 Link 0 |

Hearing a bit of hearsay about Adams being the man, don't know enough about it/him but wouldn't be the move that I would be overly happy with. More, more of the same than outside the box thinking. Think we need a shake up. AnDunCeanada (Down) - Posts: 109 - 10/07/2018 15:46:24 2120429 Link 0 |

I assume you must be related to the lad or you're just plain having a laugh. Conor's involvement in the development squads has been that of an administrator not a coach. Not a bad thing in it's self but hardly a recommendation for a county senior management set-up downredhand (Tyrone) - Posts: 567 - 10/07/2018 15:54:59 2120435 Link 0 |

I'd tend to agree......county could do with a fresh voice from outside & the Crossmaglen style of football is better suited to Down than Poacher's parking the bus any day.... Conor Deegans & wee James are doing decent work at underage which will hopefully start to bear some fruit. Don't think we are as bad as the display v Donegal & need a proper management set-up to galvanise the best players in the county to turn out.....A big name like McEntee could be a start. This decision is critical, if county board don't get this right at this point and Down don't start closing the large gap that exists between us and Div.1 teams I'd fear the decline over the past decade (or more) could become irreversible..... (think Cavan or Offaly as counties with once proud traditions that have never been able to come close to getting back to that level). Wee Pete would be a disaster! Ask anyone who's ever worked with him at club or county level (even lads that won AI's under him). The team of the 90's could have managed themselves. It was the 4 or 5 years post late 90's when McGrath hung on that the county has since never fully recovered from....Fermanagh players got rid of him for God's sake!! It would be such a retrograde step it's not even funny.... Mourne.Identidy (Down) - Posts: 20 - 05/08/2018 23:53:46 2129771 Link 0 |

Im not sure weather Pete would be the right man or not, But to give him the bad manners in your post is very wrong, Just for the record ,he won, Ulster and All Ireland with the minors 2 Ulster and 2 All Ireland with seinor 2 Ulster u21,and within 45 seconds of winning that All Ireland only for a very late Cork goal He took Fermanagh to All Ireland Q final last year ,only to be denied by a blatent dive by Aidan O Shay to earn Mayo a Pen to win by 2 points He also Senior league Div 1 with An Riocht about 7 or 8 years ago Again with Down ,he took us to the National league final in 19 90 Not even to mention what he won at schools level The above would suggest to me that he was dam good at what he did germac (Down) - Posts: 586 - 07/08/2018 20:55:17 2130604 Link 0 |

Tá brón orm to Pete & all who love him, and as you rightly point out that record speaks for itself, but so to does the fact that most teams couldn't wait to get rid of him after a few years (kind of Morinho like)......he was obviously doing something right but as I alluded to he's never been popular with players on the whole even with those who enjoyed success under him...... The negative slant on my previous post is largely motivated by the fact that I can't believe he's even been considered by some at this stage of the game. It would be like Meath bringing back Sean Boylan or Kerry Micko, desperation stuff. Underage maybe. Go raibh míle maith agat Pete for the good times but the county needs to look forward not back to the hazy glory days..... Mourne.Identidy (Down) - Posts: 20 - 08/08/2018 17:58:06 2130937 Link 0 |

Look ,theres not a County team ,that some people within, cant wait to get rid of their manager, and other people within think he is a great fella ,The same with clubs, But I have every faith in the 5 men appointed to seek our new manager ,and they will want, like the rest of us, nothing but the best for Down ,Whoever that man is we should all back him 100 pc , germac (Down) - Posts: 586 - 08/08/2018 19:55:48 2130985 Link 1 |

five man committee will come back with a list of options. The man in the hat will then decide which one he prefers and what can be afforded. Democracy at work, just as Jim McCorry. bricktop (Down) - Posts: 2503 - 09/08/2018 08:27:43 2131110 Link 0 |

Wrong, They wont be coming back with a list of options, They will be coming back with 1 name, A man who they think is the best man to take us forward , That name will be put to the clubs of Down to give it the green light , germac (Down) - Posts: 586 - 11/08/2018 13:51:50 2131733 Link 0 |
