2018 Limerick Senior Football Championship

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Championship just under 2 months away and must be one of the most open Championships in a few years? Adare surprised us all last year and deservedly so. Can they do it again this year? In my opinion there is no team streets ahead of any of the others so a lot of teams I think will fancy their chances. I'm thinking Adare will be the team to beat again this year, although newly promoted St.Senans could be this years surprise package. I'm sure the likes of Monaleen, Newcastlewest and St.Pats will have their say. Are Drom able to mount a genuine challenge? Can never write them off! Fr.Caseys seem to be stuck in limbo for last few years. As for the others, they can all be there or thereabouts if they can get a good start. Hard to know who will be up for relegation until two or three rounds played. What ye all think?

I don't think anyone actually cares about the football championship anymore, the Limerick team are at an all time low. Maybe if football in the Limerick Club scene wasn't so negative and boring people might actually go to watch it, games that finish up with scorelines like 8 points to 5 isn't gonna get people going. When Adare a hurling club win the Football championship it shows up how weak it is !

Any other predictions lads, looks like it's a wide open county championship this year first two games will be crucial to every club with a 15 week break to the round 3 games.

Adare to beat Broadford by 8
Bally to beat Senans by 5
Monaleen to beat Na piarsaigh by 5
Kieran's to beat Ballysteen by 3

My predictions for this weeks round 1 fixtures are as follows. Im just going to go for results as margins are difficult to judge at this stage.

Adare to beat Drom
Senans to beat Ballylanders
Ballysteen to best Kierans
NCW to beat St Pats
Fr Caseys to beat Oola
Monaleen to beat NAP

Adare 2-11 Drom/Broadford 0-8

Stylish win for adare without ever getting out of first gear , looked really comfortable throughout. Have serious numbers and will be a side to be reckoned with for years to come , have youth in abundance . Drom/Broadford going through transition with all the older players from the 2000s now retired . Noticed adare players wearing gps trackers , seem like very professional outfit leaving no stone unturned . Anyone who got the 7/4 on adare to win on Tuesday will be very thankful to paddy power .

Dear Jesus, GPS at club level!! Treasurers all over the county are hiding under the table.

Every junior b team must now have them or you are perpetuating the cycle - so goes the argument against streaming of the All Ireland into divisions. My view is, if you cant win the junior b league you have no business entering the senior championship. Wild expense to preserve ego is all there is at the moment.

Back on topic - really hoping the Milford site gets back on track, no 2018 championship up yet. The county board PRO should be instructed to maintain it - or give a grant to Milford man to keep it going.

Looking forward to going to a game Sunday.

Tough on Oola that they had to play tonight without Richie English, Barry Murphy and Pat Ryan. While their presence might not have been enough to beat Fr Casey's, the game would certainly have been closer. Another example of the increasing distance between club and county. Looks like the day is getting closer when clubs will lose all access to county players, like what has happened in rugby.

From what I have seen so far I reckon Fr. Caseys can really shake up the championship this year. Although they played a disorganised and perhaps light Oola team they dispatched them without much fuss. Oola on the other hand could be in trouble if this rounds game has anything to go by.

Adare were more professional then impressive but perhaps and it has to be sait that Drom are even more depleted than the last number of years with even more absentees. That said with Droms tradition and style of play, I still reckon they could reach a quarter final.

I hoped Ballysteen would revive themselves after last years mishap, however they were largely disappointing. You know what you get with St.Kierans and obviously Ballysteen could not match that level. They again coukd be in trouble.

St. Senans could say they did all but win their first round tie against Ballylanders. And i was actually at this game and both sides could argue this. In a tight encounter a draw was probably a fair result. Both sides will look to secure survival first and foremost I reckon.

Monaleen looked booked for victory only for the inclement weather. Perhaps this will be a blessing in disguise for a disorganised Nap. A more organised and fluid nap could really turn the tides in this fixture.

I really do expect NCW to dispatch St Pats with the minimum of fuss although it will be interesting to see Pats line up with soccer still the number 1 at this stage of the year for many of their panel.

After first 2 rounds completed looks like ncw and adare are a step ahead of the rest . That's of course with monaleen still with opening 2 rounds to play . Oola really seem to be struggling early days yet though

I think NCW are the team to beat this year, Very hard to stop when in full flight, but don't rule out FR. Casey's or Adare.

Well lads, shame to see such little interest on this forum this year. Who is fancied for the Limerick football titles this year? Intermediate you'd have to fancy Rathkeale or possibly Claughan have an outside chance? The senior would look like Adare or Newcastle West maybe? What has happened to Monaleen? Very poor year by their standards.

Fancy NCW to win senior and think Rathkeale will win the intermediate, they are very strong, think their was problems in the monaleen camp, looks like it will be be oola and na piarsaigh in the relegation battle, the junior a championship looks very interesting, hard to a pick a winner.

Any reports on the weekend games ? Huge win for ballysteen against Caseys. Quater finals now known - Kierans V Monaleen, & Ballysteen V Ballylanders. I fancy Kierans to beat Monaleen (not the Monaleen of old) team & Ballylanders to beat Ballysteen.

Agree St kierans to beat monaleen but fancy ballysteen to beat ballylanders, relegation battle St Pat's and na piarsaigh, you would have to fancy the saints.

Can't see past Kierans, Ballysteen. Ballylanders took an age to break down a poor NA Piarsiagh side. You'd fancy the Saints alrite, but if Na Piarsiagh advance straight to a semi in the hurling (which they will) expect Will O'Donoghue and Mike Casey to add to their football bid. They badly missed a ball winner against Ballylanders and Ronan Lynch black card was the end of their chance in the game.

Unbelievable finish to the Bally v Ballysteen game. Ballysteen 10 points behind with 14mins left and went on to score 3-2 without reply and lead in stoppage time before Jbm hit a winning goal on the break in the last kick of the game.
