I think the loyal or hardcore supporter would consider the season ticket good value - 7 league games and a championship match. If you wanted to follow Ireland's world cup games i think you would have to pay around the same for 2 games and let's be honest the entertainment value is very poor. There are concessions for some games , obviously when a low attendance is expected. Overall the season ticket is good value. It's also convenient and it avoids hassle with queing like there was at Wexford Park last year for the ticket sales for the Kilkenny game.

I think it does suit the hardcore supporter, someone who never misses a game. You aren't going to save £50 or £60 a year by any means put there are small savings to be had. As I said the main reason I get it is because of the hassle free tickets, no queuing and generally in good seats. The_Fridge (Tyrone) - Posts: 2093 - 08/11/2017 13:40:45 2061207 Link 0 |
I'd consider myself loyal and I don't think it's good value. There is no leeway in it at all. Miss one game which is easily done and you're in the red. There is a large bracket of supporters who might attend 3-5 league games in a year. I'd consider these reasonable attendees but there is no incentive for them to purchase. If there was you might actually improve attendances as they might make an extra effort seeing as they already have a ticket. You could actually build up a larger loyal base. GAA could take in more money too by doing this by getting paid by a larger percentage of absentees. For people with young kids it offers nothing E.g we have a trip to Cork and Ennis next year. This would be a nightmare journey with kids in the car. There should be some scope for missing a couple of games in the price or maybe a proper local season ticket. Of course there are concessions in the Aviva. That's the point I'm making. When low attendance is expected. As in the majority of league games. Will you be guarateed a super 8 match day ticket if you purchase a season ticket? TheRock2121 (Donegal) - Posts: 1199 - 08/11/2017 16:12:21 2061240 Link 0 |
It sounds like it doesn't suit your needs Hardtimes so probably better not getting it. It does, however, suit others. Most supporters will attend the home games so that's 4 games in a lot of cases and they will attend all the championship matches. Obviously there is away games that you aren't going to attend due to travel etc.

Yes. The season ticket guarantees you (and charges you for) a ticket for every championship game your county plays. The final is the only game that has an attendance requirement (60%) attached to it.

But the ticket doesn't include all 4 championship games.

Sorry I meant 4 home league games and you get the first championship game for free so you will attend that. As I said it suits some and doesn't others. the extra 20 euro is annoying but certainly wont be stopping me from buying it. The_Fridge (Tyrone) - Posts: 2093 - 09/11/2017 11:06:09 2061372 Link 0 |
For me the raise in price was the final reason I decided not to renew. For me the last 2 years I struggled to make all the games due to work and my own football in another county. Some games I did go to the scanners were broke or nobody was there to scan etc. Other games we got shocking tickets. I was fortunate that in the 2 years we reached AI finals I had the season ticket and avoided the ticket hunt but bar having that assurance (which comes at a big cost) I don't see any benefit. League game and qualifiers are pay at the gate. Most championship matches you can purchase tickets through your club or in supervalu. I took great pride in being a season ticket holder but overall It just doesn't make sense. In Donegal you can get a Club ticket that gives you the same perks as the Season ticket (without a min attendance) and allows you into all club matches (not just your own). All for €200. That's what the others in my family are going for as the value in the normal season ticket is dwindling. dstuction (Donegal) - Posts: 1209 - 09/11/2017 16:01:59 2061413 Link 1 |
have never had a season ticket as i work a lot of weekends, but the season ticket is now absolutely dreadful value. perfect10 (Wexford) - Posts: 3929 - 10/11/2017 17:14:47 2061653 Link 0 |
How long would 120 last you in a pub? That's the way I️ sometimes either justify or condemn the things i spend my money on. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2306 - 11/11/2017 09:59:53 2061697 Link 0 |
I do this also :) I don't think people mean they aren't going to attend the games. Its more that the concept of the season tickets doesn't make sense some times. I feel there should be an incentive and currently the only incentive is getting an All Ireland ticket. Last year I HAD to get tickets even when they clashed with my own club matches. In these cases I was ringing around trying to get rid of the ticket. Probably more hassle at times dstuction (Donegal) - Posts: 1209 - 11/11/2017 15:06:02 2061728 Link 1 |
Well I will go to the matches as I always do, but I am not in the mood for giving a donation to the GAA (at even the most basic maths, the hurling one is desperately bad value for money given you only get 5 league games for it) and will spend the balance on a few pints in the local. Everyone's a winner.... Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 11/11/2017 17:21:35 2061734 Link 1 |
I have the Mayo season ticket since 2009. Did a comparison of the decreasing value of it over the last few years. (all match's attended). mayo.mick (Mayo) - Posts: 585 - 11/11/2017 20:27:50 2061748 Link 0 |
As we have seen, and like most things there are pro's and cons. It suits some people and not others, there are always factors like work, travel and expenses with larger or extended families. For me it provides peace of mind that I don't have to queue and am fortunate enough at the moment to be able to benefit from it by being able to attend all games. I think also it rewards people as the Mayo poster has ponted out in terms of the financial saving that is possible. It also incentivises you to go to the games when you do have it. I know there are the most loyal of supporters who cannot attend some games for reasons outlined, but personally I don't like to see people picking and choosing which games to go to as happened in 2014 when people who attended a game all year decided to all of a sudden to go to Thurles to see Wexford v Limerick on the strength of a sudden and renewed optimism after Wexford had beaten All ireland chamions Clare and Waterford. There were a lot of Wexford people that day who could get tickets that day for the stand a because of these fine days 'supporters'. Every county needs as much support as possible but I feel the season ticket has gone a long way in addressing situations like what happened in Churls from re-occurring. Good breakdown of prices etc. I see you saved 36 Euro-that's actually more than I thought. Not as much as previous years but 36 Euro is still good saving. Hey if it's 16 Euro this year because if the extra 20 Euro it's still like one free league game.

As someone who never considered a season ticket , I now have purchased the club+ ticket for 200 euros. For me been a Galway fan I now have peace of mind knowing that a stand tickets for Galway matches is now open to me. last year and previous years I would be on line at GAA tickets but only given the option of what I considered was a poor seat. despite not missing a hurling match last year my All Ireland ticket was only sourced at the last minute . I never want to beg like that again. I also attend over 10 local championship games every year at at cost of around 120 so I was stupid never to have purchased a season ticket. yes its good value but only if your county is in with a realistic chance of making All Ireland semi/final. heartbroken (Galway) - Posts: 370 - 14/11/2017 12:10:04 2062247 Link 0 |
heartbroken, you wouldn't be jumping on a bandwagon there would you....... Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 15/11/2017 10:02:31 2062419 Link 0 |
That is for every game. I know I try to go to as many as possible but a game in Kerry wasnt possible for instance. Straight away thats loosing money then. Last year I had to purchase tickets that I knew I couldnt attend due to football commitments in another county. Financially there is very little saving if any at all. If you are going to most games and want the piece of mind then fair enough but it most certainly isnt value for money dstuction (Donegal) - Posts: 1209 - 15/11/2017 11:57:53 2062450 Link 0 |
Do you mean he is a Galway bandwagon supporter?
