I just got my renewal email for the season ticket and it has gone up in price to €120.. The difference between this year and last year is the new super 8's and promise of a discounted ticket for these matches.. Farney (Monaghan) - Posts: 807 - 25/10/2017 11:55:06 2057814 Link 2 |
That's a strange one Farney as the increase isn't covering any cost regards the Super 8 tickets (albeit you get a discount of €5 off the price). The ticket covers the cost of all league games and the first championship match, that hasn't changed so I don't understand how they can justify this increase in price. But sure the economy is back in business and there's money to be had!! keithlemon (Australia) - Posts: 920 - 25/10/2017 12:03:56 2057821 Link 0 |
I agree farney, I got the ticket 3 years in a row when it first came out. between the price hike and Croke Park stating I didnt attend league matches when i did (and swiped my card), putting my % attendance under pressure! I returned the ticket in my 3rd year. I wont go back to it as so far touch wood I have been able to get a ticket through my club anyway anytime Kerry have made a final. woops (Kerry) - Posts: 2073 - 25/10/2017 12:16:34 2057826 Link 0 |
Just read the email myself. I think the season ticket is great for the most part, the 20 euro hike is a bit annoying but im paying it anyway. I still think it will work out cheaper if your county gets the super 8's and beyond. The_Fridge (Tyrone) - Posts: 2093 - 25/10/2017 13:36:31 2057859 Link 0 |
It simply doesn't add up. If you buy the early bird ticket for a match it's €10 and €15 on the day. A stand ticket for the first round match is €30. So you lose €20 unless the gaa charges the full price of €15 no matter when you buy your ticket then the season ticket holder is €20 less off. shaggylegend (Monaghan) - Posts: 1943 - 25/10/2017 14:14:45 2057880 Link 0 |
I agree wholeheartedly with the OP. You do however get €5 off every match during the championship (after the initial free one). You are correct tho - the value simply isnt there. Dr.Watson (Kildare) - Posts: 208 - 25/10/2017 15:28:05 2057907 Link 0 |
If your county gets knocked out in the first qualifier, you will be down €10. Ludicrous decision.

The individual match prices are likely to be increased. Therefore season ticket should still save a few euro. But not much! OGarmaile (Tyrone) - Posts: 248 - 25/10/2017 16:57:49 2057943 Link 0 |
Hill 16 Ticket renewal is 175 Euro and we don't even get a seat jd1963 (Dublin) - Posts: 16 - 25/10/2017 17:11:30 2057947 Link 0 |
Did I read div 3 and 4 is still 100 Euro so that kind of off sets the risk of getting but out early if you are a weaker county. Any price rise is always going to be annoying but it's 20 Euro. Let's not go over the top. The_Fridge (Tyrone) - Posts: 2093 - 25/10/2017 20:58:03 2057991 Link 0 |
They ain't called Grab All Association for nothing, the big argument should be the super 8 tickets, the quarter final tickets I think were 25-35 euro, will the GAA give us a 3 match package for 25-35 euro? If course not, they will charge 20 euro each and over the 3 games that will be 60 euro, a profit of 25-35 euro for the GAA, that along with the 21 euro profit for each season ticket means it's a small profit for an organization that is struggling to fund the big wigs, the poor creatures riverboys (Mayo) - Posts: 1389 - 25/10/2017 21:42:41 2057998 Link 0 |
How much is a Mayo season ticket ? Marse (Dublin) - Posts: 217 - 25/10/2017 21:49:17 2058004 Link 0 |
Yes and this is the real unfair part I feel, you are being penalised if your county competes in Division 1 or 2 but the price remains at €99 if your competing in Division 3 or 4, I have had the season ticket the past two years and being honest I probably will still renew it but there's a smell of larceny by trick about this rise in cost.

Is it good the price has shot up? No. Is it worth it? Yes 15BACSAM (Dublin) - Posts: 142 - 26/10/2017 08:45:48 2058060 Link 1 |
What does it actually entitle you to? tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 26/10/2017 09:26:42 2058069 Link 0 |
The Mayo season ticket is the same price as other counties (now €120 I presume) however these are sold out and unless existing ticket holders don't re-new there are no new tickets available. The county board do have a scheme where they make season tickets available for an increased fee of €200. This is a total disgrace as there are no added benefits. When they came out first they included entry to all club games but this no longer applies. Like the situation where they charged clubs €1000 over and above the actual ticket prices for an additional 20 all Ireland final tickets - to me this is the same as the touts outside Croke Park on all Ireland final day

I think its a two tier perspective and a bit of a moving target. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4475 - 26/10/2017 10:23:19 2058081 Link 3 |
It entitles you to entry to all your counties league games, including any finals/play-offs, and entry to your first championship game in one code only. After that you get a €5 discount on all championship tickets except finals. (provincial and/or all Ireland), and also entry to the club finals. As has been said before, it's nowhere near as much value now as it was a few years ago, but if you are from Dublin or Mayo especially where demand for tickets is huge if you get to a final, it's priceless come September.

Your dead right, the season ticket is only really of value if your team makes an All Ireland final/semi final. I missed no Galway hurling match this year but did not have a season ticket, luck and noting els got me my Final ticket so I will always from now on buy a season hurling ticket.
