How would that help the " poor referee ". Just more pressure surely. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 17/08/2017 20:37:44 2034882 Link 0 |
I think referees are a bit like politicians, you have to be a certain breed and mad enough to do the job in the first place. it would be good to see the reports where there has been controversial incidents, ie. Connolly's this year. Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 3175 - 17/08/2017 20:43:31 2034887 Link 0 |

What would it achieve if we could see the referee's reports? Most of us know already what a difficult job match officials have. Possibly it would lead to some ambulance-chasing solicitors looking for players with a grievance and picking holes in the new evidence. And it would more ammunition to trolls. Nothing would be achieved from this that would be positive for the game. It's a private document and other than ref and the assessors the only people who should see assessment forms are those who get a refs permission. There is no reason fans should get to see them ormondbannerman (Clare) - Posts: 13473 - 20/08/2017 22:49:42 2035771 Link 0 |
Assessors don't see them. The reports are submitted to the county board and, where disciplinary issues are concerned, they are sent out to the club / county involved. There is absolutely no need for any one else to see them.

Torcail of 170 posts from\Australia Tomsmith here from County Cavan If you don't mind I will disagree with you that reports should be private and not for customers viewing. Well I can tell you that everyone other that poor auld Joe Sop cane see the reports. The County Board, the Clubs involved, the players involved, If it is a County game the Counties involved and if it goes to an appeal the Provincial Council members . So who is left in the dark. Poor old Joe Sop tomsmith (Cavan) - Posts: 4027 - 22/08/2017 10:26:18 2036301 Link 0 |
Speak to your club secretary, they get all referees reports if they request them. County secretaries will get the intercounty ones. Speak to your club secretary if you want to see those as well. Members of the GAA can get access to them if they so wish. Paying punters through the gates are consumers. Obviously if you're a member then that gives you the rights as highlighted above. bricktop (Down) - Posts: 2503 - 22/08/2017 11:37:31 2036332 Link 0 |
In short - Yes Transparency is always the best option. Most of us bar stool punters can accept honest mistakes however lack of transparency always has a whiff of conspiracy. Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1920 - 22/08/2017 13:37:04 2036385 Link 0 |
Tomsmith here Maybe you would enlighten me as to where members of the GAA can access these reports. I have a few a would like to see. I am sure a few supporters away up in Dublin would like to see the Dunlin ones tomsmith (Cavan) - Posts: 4027 - 22/08/2017 13:52:24 2036390 Link 0 |
In short the answer to the question is no. Can you imagine the tripe that would emanate from the barstool experts and the keyboard warriors if the referees reports were made public . Greengrass (Louth) - Posts: 6178 - 22/08/2017 16:55:16 2036472 Link 0 |
why would you want to see a refs report? all these keyboard warrior analysts or just plain know all but know f-all commenting looking to see ref reports or looking this that or the other player banned { including those on tv as well } is getting boring. Yes refs make mistakes, they are only human and have to make a decision in the blink of an eye without the aid of technology or sitting in the stand watching the off the ball stuff. Time that tmo's are introduced as well as requiring the umpires to be referees and the 4th official watching off the ball stuff as his only roll is to watch a clock hold up a board and record subs. What next will you be looking to see as a paying punter? the managers notes/game plan, the player stats in real time. You pay your ticket to se a game or 2 and that's as far as it goes. bulmccabe (Tyrone) - Posts: 361 - 22/08/2017 18:30:05 2036508 Link 0 |

Well can tell you that the Referee should not made fundamental playing rule errors. Mr Mc Cabe if you were training a team for six to seven month and a Referee makes an error that causes you the game would you not feel that at the least he would come and apologise to you after he discovers his error. I know to apologise is a sign of weakness but it can also lead to softness of attitude to the poor Official after he tenders his apology . tomsmith (Cavan) - Posts: 4027 - 22/08/2017 23:47:55 2036594 Link 0 |

You are entitled to disagree!!! However, you have failed to identify one valid reason why Joe Soap should have an entitlement to see a refs report. Just because you might be a GAA member? This gives you no right!!! Would be the same to look for details of disciplinary procedures taken against a fellow employee in your job. I should be entitled to see it as I work in the same company!!!!

Surely you know who your club secretary is, ask them. It's not rocket science.
