Went over to killoe today. Unreal game. The two best footballing teams in the county. If they both got to the county final you would have some attendance. But saying all that I left in no doubt mullinalaghta are strong favourites to win another championship purely down to there defensive set up. Senior championship starting in earnest this weekend...time for predictions! Genuinely excited for this years competition...3 genuine contenders in my eyes (Columba's, Killoe and Clonguish) and 2 dark horses (Abbeylara and Dromard). Throw in two young up and coming teams in Colmcille and Slashers and there are definitely upsets and drama in store! Here's my thoughts on this weekend's action for what its worth... Clonguish v Mostrim - Clonguish to win by 5+ Abbeylara v Carrickedmond - Abbey to win by 5+ Columba's v Slashers - Reigning champions to win with a bit to spare 5+ Granard v Ballymahon - Gonna be close...a hesitant vote for Granard by 1 or 2 points Colmcille - Fr Manning Gaels - Colmcille to put a marker down here..win by 8+ Killoe v Dromard - Another close game...Killoe by 2 or 3 points Dedrick (Longford) - Posts: 6 - 20/07/2017 12:47:29 2019904 Link

They play carrickedmond next doh and will beat them easy which will put them through to quarter finals. The format for the championship is a joke. What are carrickedmond,killashee and a few others doing in the senior championship. The big teams don't even need to play full teams in these 3 games. There all preparing for quarter finals. Williams was playing but went off injured at half time. O'Brien and Burke were injured. Ronan Sweeney was also out because of injury and Brendan Devine didn't start because of injury. Don't know what they are at in training but it does not look good with all the injuries. Throw in the fact D Barden was sent off it was a bad day all round for Clonguish. They will be delighted with their year so far, top of Div 2, finalists in the Bertie Allen and now almost guaranteed a position in the Q-finals and another two years of senior football. Do or Die time this weekend for Fr. Manning Gaels and Granard...the losers will be relegated along with Killashee. Big game for the future of both clubs. Granard seemed to be making progress under Niall Sheridan but have regressed this year, beating Dromard in the league the only real highlight so far. Speaking of Dromard they have it all to do against Slashers who won the corresponding league fixture a few weeks back. Theres no doubt both are championship teams though so it won't matter much. Sorry yeah your right I thought the Gaels couldn't catch Ballymahon but they can...and should after this weekend! Although having watched Colmcille in their last two games I was very surprised at how wasteful they were in front of goal, possibility for another Ballymahon victory! I'd agree with above Q-final predictions except for Dromard, I think Slashers will take them this evening! So Mullinaghta's and Killoe reward for being 1st and 2nd of the what is considered the top group is a game against eachother. Meanwhile Ballymahon or Mostrim get rewarded for being in group's 3 and 2 with a possible semi - final spot. This draw is a joke what adavance does a club get for topping their group. Group one for instance has the top four teams St columbas Mullinalaghta v killoe Dromard v clonguish Winners play in semi final . Other side of draw Colmcille v Abbeylara Ballymahon v Mostrim winners play in Semi Final Potentially you could have a very weak co final . What advance has any team winner or topping their group, none . Why not have a open championship from the beginning . This system is a loads is s?!&/. Sorry but it also questioned is it a fixed draw to get rid of three of the four top teams out of the race for the the semi's. and championship final. I generally don't think there is any brains in our county board. When clearly organising a championship format is not the hardest job in the world they clearly feel it's better and easier for them just to pull balls from a hat. No real thinking involved which they like. For example teams should not be playing each other in quarter final that have already played each other in there last match.
