Championship will be in full swing in a few weeks. Senior championship winners will be killoe or mullinalaghta. I think it's as straight forward as that. Same with intermediate rathcline or cashel honlongford (Longford) - Posts: 163 - 03/07/2017 23:44:12 2010060 Link 0 |
Can't argue with that.

Went over to killoe today. Unreal game. The two best footballing teams in the county. If they both got to the county final you would have some attendance. But saying all that I left in no doubt mullinalaghta are strong favourites to win another championship purely down to there defensive set up. They don't give away goals and they say good defences win championships. honlongford (Longford) - Posts: 163 - 09/07/2017 18:32:11 2013238 Link 0 |
Senior championship starting in earnest this weekend...time for predictions! Genuinely excited for this years competition...3 genuine contenders in my eyes (Columba's, Killoe and Clonguish) and 2 dark horses (Abbeylara and Dromard). Throw in two young up and coming teams in Colmcille and Slashers and there are definitely upsets and drama in store! Here's my thoughts on this weekend's action for what its worth... A shock in senior championship last night with Mostrim defeating Clonguish that puts Clonguish on the back foot now already!! coach13 (Longford) - Posts: 94 - 22/07/2017 15:38:15 2020937 Link 0 |
They play carrickedmond next doh and will beat them easy which will put them through to quarter finals. The format for the championship is a joke. What are carrickedmond, killashee and a few others doing in the senior championship. The big teams don't even need to play full teams in these 3 games. There all preparing for quarter finals. I heard burke obrien Williams where not playing last night for clonguish

Williams was playing but went off injured at half time. O'Brien and Burke were injured. Ronan Sweeney was also out because of injury and Brendan Devine didn't start because of injury. Don't know what they are at in training but it does not look good with all the injuries. Throw in the fact D Barden was sent off it was a bad day all round for Clonguish. I heard Killashee applied to remain in intermediate but county board wouldn't allow it...as for Carickedmond on their day they could upset Mostrim and take third place in that group, they can be tough, dogged opposition when on form. But no chance of upsetting any of the bigger teams in championship this year anyway

Ballymahon looking good for a quarter final spot guaranteeing them senior championship football for the next two years they have a massive potentially in Joe Kelly l know one player doesnt make a team but it helps. coach13 (Longford) - Posts: 94 - 29/07/2017 16:34:16 2025386 Link 0 |
Kennan is doing a great job with ballymahon. They will be very happy with there championship this year and also having a great league. honlongford (Longford) - Posts: 163 - 30/07/2017 12:45:51 2025823 Link 0 |
They will be delighted with their year so far, top of Div 2, finalists in the Bertie Allen and now almost guaranteed a position in the Q-finals and another two years of senior football. Dedrick (Longford) - Posts: 6 - 04/08/2017 16:16:30 2028997 Link 0 |
I'm not sure the relegation point is quite right. My understanding is that the teams that finish 3 and 4 in Group 3 at the end of the group games will then go into a playoff to decide who follows the 5th team into relegation so that 2018 championship has 12 teams (3 x 4). So this weekends game might simply be a fairly meaningless precursor to that playoff game between those same two teams and that one would be the crucial game.

My last 8 teams honlongford (Longford) - Posts: 163 - 10/08/2017 12:20:42 2031936 Link 0 |
Sorry yeah your right I thought the Gaels couldn't catch Ballymahon but they can...and should after this weekend! Although having watched Colmcille in their last two games I was very surprised at how wasteful they were in front of goal, possibility for another Ballymahon victory! I'd agree with above Q-final predictions except for Dromard, I think Slashers will take them this evening! But should make for a cracker and hopefully be the best game to date Dedrick (Longford) - Posts: 6 - 12/08/2017 12:31:12 2032573 Link 0 |
One sided draw again. System is seriously flawed. catchturnscore (Longford) - Posts: 151 - 13/08/2017 21:44:17 2032943 Link 0 |
What is the draw

Mull - killoe honlongford (Longford) - Posts: 163 - 13/08/2017 22:14:01 2032960 Link 0 |
So Mullinaghta's and Killoe reward for being 1st and 2nd of the what is considered the top group is a game against eachother. Meanwhile Ballymahon or Mostrim get rewarded for being in group's 3 and 2 with a possible semi - final spot. Hopefully when the team's are reduced in 2018 the Co Board come up with a better system but I wouldn't hold my breath. lawdan (Longford) - Posts: 91 - 13/08/2017 22:45:53 2032983 Link 0 |
This draw is a joke what adavance does a club get for topping their group. Supervalue (Longford) - Posts: 17 - 14/08/2017 01:11:50 2033029 Link 0 |
I generally don't think there is any brains in our county board. When clearly organising a championship format is not the hardest job in the world they clearly feel it's better and easier for them just to pull balls from a hat. No real thinking involved which they like. honlongford (Longford) - Posts: 163 - 14/08/2017 09:20:58 2033064 Link 0 |
