Not sour grapes it was a pint raised by all BEFORE the game there is and was no logic in that refs appointment , that stands, for me it had no bearing on result as he made questionable calls all day against both teams , fact that HQ got appointment wrong has nothing to do with result , refs performance speaks for itself

Not in the slightest, ill give you one example, in 2011 if i remember correctly Donegal were humiliated by Longford with the likes of murphy McFadden and a fair few others on the team. Then came jim McGuinness, Meath have been seriously underperforming over past few years, players not nearly playing well enough, goo players playing badly, other players refuse to play. That is now all sorted, their is hunger desire and they are playing to potential, under the manager Michael daragh McCauley said and I quote "the best manager I have ever played under". It may or may not happen. Also in a behind closed doors game recently between Meath and mayo, Meath narrowly lost but a long standing member and all star of mayo team said afterwards, that Meath would be a force to be reckoned with in championship, Meath also hammered Down in recent challenge. Now look very little can be read into challenges but Meath will make last 8 this year that is for sure, as for beating Dublin ? Yes its a lot more possible this year than since 2010, will it happen? Hard to know , but if not this year it will be over next 3 years. Andy mcentee is I believe the best manager since Sean and that is some man to follow. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 04/05/2017 16:22:06 1984515 Link 1 |
Well it's beginning to look like either that or they are completely deluded!

Kerry,Mayo,Donegal,Tyrone and possibly Monaghan are most likely to beat Dublin I'd say.Meath beating Dublin is possible of course but highly unlikely.Cork beating Kerry is also possible but highly unlikely. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 04/05/2017 16:51:20 1984527 Link 0 |
Well I for one welcome this bravo talk , two years ago we had a poster who if he's brace enough will put his hand up to say Dublin shouldn't be playing in Leinster and due to our strength and advantages move on and leave Leinster to other counties, at the time I thought their had been a cull of nuts in the county , but now we have what I like big up your team , get behind them , kill the blue juggernaut that's more like it here here good auld Meath have found their mojo Damothedub (Dublin) - Posts: 5193 - 04/05/2017 17:41:26 1984541 Link 0 |

well yes but logic has to come into it too. i do think we are capable of at least putting up a fight to dublin,i was disgusted by the effort last year. game by game for meath,if we get to the final, then i will have a better idea.

As a Mayo man living in West Meath, not Westmeath but very close, I'm delighted to hear this fighting talk. I wondered where the fight and the arrogance had gone from Meath football since Boylan left management. I naively believe they'll win Leinster before the end of the decade and it won't be entirely down to a demise in this great Dublin team. McEntee has them on the right path. What's the point in saying "We'll never beat Dublin" or "Sure we might beat Dublin if they have an off day" rather than saying "We're going to beat Dublin". Meath always had good footballers and were usually physically tough men too. But, for me, their biggest strength was their mental toughness and absolute hatred of losing. So if there's optimism emerging in Meath football they'll be back sooner rather than later and it's not just the Dubs who need to beware.

Agree with last years effort shocking , There are a new generation of fans on both sides who this rivalry we talk about the only real concrete eveidence of it is on reeling in the years , now Wayno1 will keep his foot on your head while your under water , me I'd let you up for air before ducking you back under , rivalries are great for campturing the imagination of the youth and God the amount in soccer jerseys on show when I drive through Meath you badly need a revival.

No shock there then but agree with most of your points.

Dublin are beatable but they're certainly not there for the taking.Still the most likely champions come September.

I think more teams could beat Dublin now than 2 or 3 years ago let say, is it a case of Dublin powers fading or just teams catching up with Dublin ? WhyTheLongFace (Meath) - Posts: 946 - 04/05/2017 20:24:00 1984575 Link 0 |
absolutely.

i will say that skill and ability isn't really the issue in meath football.. you sort of hit the nail on the head.
