While most county championships are at an advanced stage, the action doesn’t start in Fermanagh until this evening when Enniskillen Gaels and Teemore Shamrocks get the New York Cup race underway at Brewster Park.

Runners-up to Derrygonnelly Harps in last year’s final, the Gaels are determined to go one better and signalled their intent by winning the Division 1 League title a few weeks ago. However, they can take nothing for granted against a Shamrocks side who are the reigning IFC and Division 2 League champions.

Kinawley host Belnaleck tomorrow evening, while the other two Round 1 ties – Erne Gaels v Ederney and Derrygonnelly v Devenish – are slated for Sunday afternoon in Belleek and Derrygonnelly respectively.

There are reports that the three Jones brothers might not be available to the Harps after missing the recent League final loss to Enniskillen, while Erne Gaels and their new high-profile management team of Declan Bonner and Paul Brennan from Donegal are hoping it will be a case of third time lucky after losing the last two county finals.
