Burren were crowned Paul McGirr Ulster U16 club football champions for 2025 when they overcame Bellaghy by 1-9 to 1-6 in last Sunday’s final at a rain-soaked Páirc Ghearrdhroma in Dromore.

The Down giants lifted the Cú Chulainn trophy for a record third time, having previously been victorious in 2014 and ’18. Burren raced into an early 0-3 to 0-0 lead thanks to points from captain Sam Murdock, Shane McGreevey and Dylan Kelly, only for the excellent Jarlath McCartney to draw their Derry opponents level with the opening goal.

Oran Doyle tagged on two quick points and McCartney landed a huge two-pointer to send Bellaghy into the break with a 1-4 to 0-4 lead.

Bellaghy extended their lead through wing back Fearghal McLarnon after the restart, but would only score once more as Burren wrestled back control. Points from McGreevey, Ethan Harty and Patrick Murtagh (two) reduced the deficit to the minimum before wing back Odhran Trainor netted to put the winners back in front.

Oran Glackin replied for Bellaghy from a free, but two late points from Murdock secured the silverware for Martin Brennan’s young guns.
