Reigning All-Ireland champions Kilcoo overcame a massive challenge in the form of Cumann Pheadair Naofa Warrenpoint after extra-time to win their 10th Down SFC title in 11 years.

Dubbed the 'penalty kings' after coming through the quarter-final and semi-final stages in a shoot-out, Warrenpoint fought to the bitter end at Páirc Esler, but came up agonisingly short on a 1-13 to 0-15 scoreline.

Ryan Johnston's 22nd minute goal seemingly had Kilcoo in the driving seat as they forged 1-8 to 0-7 clear with ten remaining in normal-time, but they were sensationally pegged back by four unanswered 'Point points from Paddy Murdock and Alan Davidson (three placed balls).

However, in the additional 20 minutes, the Magpies put their best foot forward to score the first four points, man-of-the-match Paul Devlin, Johnston and substitutes Tiernan Fettes and Eugene Branagan provided them with a sufficient enough cushion.

Johnston and his brothers, Jerome and Shealan, could face a potential Ulster SFC clash with their dad Jerome Snr, who guided Ballybay to Monaghan glory at the same time today.
