Donegal have confirmed that ace attacker Paddy McBrearty will be their captain for the upcoming National Football League campaign.

The Kilcar clubman succeeds Michael Murphy in the skipper’s role following the latter's decision to retire from inter-county football in November.

McBrearty, who is 29 years old, is the last remaining member of the 2012 Tir Chonaill side which captured the Sam Maguire Cup under Jim McGuinness.

New manager Paddy Carr has named Hugh McFadden and Eoghán Bán Gallagher as joint vice-captains ahead of the forthcoming league campaign.

“We are happy to announce that Patrick McBrearty will lead Donegal GAA into our Allianz Football League campaign as team captain for 2023,” a statement from Donegal GAA reads.

“Hugh McFadden and Eoghán Bán Gallagher will be joint vice captains.”
