OFFICIAL OPENING OF NEW PITCH & TRAINING FACILITIES

Sunday 12th September 2010 marks another momentous day in the history of O'Donovan Rossa GAC Magherafelt, with the Official Opening of their new full size floodlit pitch and floodlit training area.

The current phase of Rossa Park's development has been in progress over the past 5 years. A major fundraising programme was initiated in 2005 to meet the expected £750,000 cost of the project. During that time vital funding was also received in the form of grants from Sport NI, Ulster Council GAA and Magherafelt District Council.

Another important aspect of this development has been a much needed 'face lift' for Rossa Park's main pitch. The new look Rossa Park now benefits from new dug-outs, pathways, fencing and ball catch nets.

With such a large number of teams to provide for, including mens football, ladies football, underage football and camogie, these new and improved facilities will be greatly welcomed and fully utilised by all Rossa's for many years to come.
The Official Opening of the new facilities at Rossa Park will commence at 1.45pm sharp on Sunday 12th September. Current GAA President Christy Cooney and former GAA President Paddy MacFlynn will be the Special Guests of Honour at the Official Opening. Paddy MacFlynn is also one of the founding members of O'Donovan Rossa back in 1934. Also in attendance at the opening will be officials from the Ulster Council GAA, Derry GAA County Board, Sport NI and Magherafelt District Council

Once the official proceedings have concluded the inaugural match on the new pitch will take place at 2.45pm. Rossa Seniors will take on an Ulster Select, containing current and past County stars from across Ulster, plus some retired Rossa Gaels.

At half time and at the end of this match, Rossa Og footballers and Camogs will entertain the expected large crowd with a series of drills and mini games. Christy Cooney will then present all Rossa Og's with a certificate marking this special occasion
In addition to the football and camogie being played there will be plenty of other activity for all the family to enjoy. Activities taking place throughout the afternoon include face painting and balloon making for the kids.

From 5.45pm onwards there will be refreshments and music in the MacFlynn Suite for all adults.

For all Rossa's past and present, Sunday 12th September will be a very special day that will be remembered for many years to come. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend this special occasion. This is an opportunity for us to see the results of all the hard work that has been put in by numerous Rossa members over the past few years. While the Official Opening marks the end of the current phase of the development of Rossa Park, it will also mark the commencement of the next phase of development in the long and distinguished history of O'Donovan Rossa GAC Magherafelt.
