Karl Lacey has emphatically ruled himself out of the running to become the next Derry senior football manager.
The 2012 Donegal All-Ireland SFC winner dismissed reports linking him the vacancy as ‘bizarre’ after guiding Kilcoo to a six-in-a-row of Down SFC titles on Sunday.
“There’s absolutely no truth in that. I haven’t engaged in any conversation with Derry GAA,” Lacey told reporters after the Magpies’ win over Burrenat Páirc Esler.
“I just find it bizarre. My full focus is with Kilcoo, and that group of players know that. All my energy, all my commitment, all my dedication, everything, is just with this group at this moment in time.
“I haven’t engaged in any conversation about any inter-county job.”
With Westmeath set to appoint Dermot McCabe as their new manager tonight, Derry, Clare and Leitrim remain the only three counties with vacancies ahead of the 2025 campaign.
