Brendan Rogers proved the hero as Derry snatched a late victory over Dublin in this evening’s pulsating top of the table Division 2 clash at a packed Celtic Park.

It finished 1-11 to 0-13 in the Ulster champions’ favour – a result which now leaves them on the cusp of promotion to the Allianz Football League’s top tier.

It didn’t look good for Rory Gallagher’s men at half-time, as they trailed by 0-7 to 0-2 against the visitors whom were ranked as 7/4 underdogs despite heading north with as many points on the table as their opponents before throw-in.

However, Niall Toner’s 45th minute goal breathed new life into the Oak Leafers and the points of Paul Cassidy and sub Oisin McWilliams would see them level before exciting prospect Lachlan Murray to shoot the hosts in front with two minutes to go.

Cormac Costello’s free looked to have earned the capital men a share of the points but one last chance deep in injury-time saw Rogers boring through and sailing over the bar (see it below), drawing a mighty roar from home crowd and Gallagher’s charges secured their fifth league win on the bounce.
