Cork hit Louth for five goals to ensure immediate promotion back to Division 2 of the Allianz Football League.

It finished 5-19 to 0-16 at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, where Colm O’Callaghan, Ian Maguire and Paul Kerrigan netted the first-half goals which never put the result in doubt for the Rebels.

Ronan McCarthy’s men build up an a 3-9 to 0-8 lead by the break and in the opening minutes of the restart Killian O’Hanlon and Damien Gore increased the hosts’ advantage with points before Nemo Rangers veteran Kerrigan rattled in his second goal.

It got worse for a now relegated Louth as they lost defender Fergal Donohoe to a second yellow card on 41 minutes and they’d end up finishing the match with 12 men, as Patrick Reilly and Emmet Carolan were both red-carded after Mark Collins had registered Cork’s fifth goal.

In Celtic Park, goals from Patrick Kearney and sub Paul Cassidy helped Derry to a 2-14 to 0-12 win over Longford.

Having recently retired from the AFL, Conor Glass came on as a second-half substitute for the Oak Leafers as they now join Down on seven points in Division 3 after the Mourne men were handed a walkover by Leitrim earlier today.
