great goal and scoring 1-3 in total was so significant. He also played a significant part in general play. He also scored a total of 3-18 in the championship. A significant weighting has to be given for his performance in the All-Ireland final.
Who was the Mayo player that punched the ball out the field on the 67th minute when Paudie Clifford attempted to pass to a colleague?. That was an important interception, although Kerry won the ball back further out."

0-6 vs Roscommon in connacht championship. Our best player on that bleak day
1-4 vs Monaghan in a one point win
3 points in the first half vs meath when we were being destroyed all over the pitch
4 points from play in All Ireland quarter final
4 points from play in All Ireland semi final
3 points in second half of All Ireland final

Kobe also had some eye catching displays of high fielding throughout the championship."

Replying To letsgetgoing:  "Nobody on this thread or the Roscommon thread is saying that Kobe is not have an excellent player or did not have a great year. The point is that Diarmuid Murtagh and Darragh Beirne had better years and deserve an All Star awards/ young player of the year ahead of Kobe. He is still an outstanding talent as are both Diarmuid and Darragh.

Your post details how Kobe scored a total of 1-24 in the championship with his best days being 1-4 against Monaghan and 0-6 against Roscommon. I think he also scored 0-3 against Tyrone in the championship. Diarmuid Murtagh scored a total of 1-31 in the championship including 1-10 against Mayo, 0-8 against Tyrone and 0-7 against Galway in the Connacht final. (All top teams) Kobe also played in the All Ireland quarter final, semi final and final and still did not come near Diarmuid's total championship score. (If you discount those 3 matches it would be 1-31 against 1-16 including the three extra Kobe points against Tyrone)

Kobe only scored 1-7 in division 1 of the National League while Diarmuid Murtagh scored an outstanding 4-30.
Every one is entitled to their view but I would certainly not like Diarmuid of Darragh to lose out on any deserved award due to excess media hype. That is the reality as far as I am concerned and I do not expect many in Mayo will agree with me.

I wish Kobe McDonald the very best in Australia and I have no doubt that he will be a major success. He comes across as a lovely guy and the hype created by the media was certainly not his creation or fault."
