Don't agree that they are suddenly way ahead. A lot of these matches take on a life of their own. St Malachys will be a different story in a knock out match than they were today I think.

No surprises in section A. The Downs, though stuttering at times eventually overpowered Garrycastle in a ten minute spell from midway through second half. Did what they had to do. Will be delighted to get J. Lynam on the pitch, though will have concerns over Drumm and Moran who exited the game with injuries. Looked good when they looked good but won't get away with this kind of performance against Kinnegad, if that ends up being the final.
The other games went on expected lines. The biggest talking point for me is that Tubberclair, after topping the group were rewarded with a q/f against the third best team while the teams that finished 8th and 9th in the championship were rewarded with a q/f against each other. Did you ever see such a farce in all your life?It actually demeans this championship. The only thing is.. the cream will probably rise to the top anyway and the final will be contested from the top 3. That is the only saving grace of an embarrassing format.
On form it should be the Downs and Kinnegad but Lomans will be dangerous if they reach the semi final. Tubberclair will be an unknown quantity for the A teams so it will be interesting how they perform against a clearly struggling Lomans team who are waiting forever for some team to kill them off. The fact that they are still alive though, will still give the top two some food for thought.
Ultimately today was a bit of a damp squib after all and the abacus wasn't needed.

Shandonagh at full throttle are a serious outfit. Speed and power all over the pitch and their six forwards are as good as any senior team bar The Downs and Kinnegad . They've good options off the bench too with O'Brien Killian Donnelly and Craig all able to come on and score. I think their half-back line finished with 4-2 or 4-3 between them which is some going. The only thing that could catch them is their inconsistency. They were 17 points up and cruising yesterday then conceded three goals in about ten minutes and Milltownpass missed a penalty too. Theyhave the panel to win Intermediate and stay senior for years but those mad spells will cost them against better teams.
They could easily have scored another 2-8 as well. I think they missed around 1-7 in the first half and Milltownpass young side looked shocked.
Kinnegad probably won't be overly happy with their performance. The game lacked bite and intensity but I've no doubt Cooney will get them quality games around Leinster before the knockouts.
At the minute it looks like Milltown v Shandonagh in the Intermediate final and Kinnegad v The Downs in the senior if The Downs can get their injuries sorted.
Would love to see Ballinagore put up a huge contest but i can't see them coming within 9/10 points of Shandonagh

There is more of a chance of Riverstown Emmets coming back from the dead and winning the Flanagan Cup than Tubberclair even getting to the Final. Section B teams are nowhere near good enough.

Tyrellspass had greater intensity in the last 5-7 minutes and won every ball that mattered even though they were 2points in arrears as the clock ticked down. Tang will be kicking themselves as they definitely could have won this and were favourites to do so with 10 mins to go, but lacked that know how at crunch time. Tyrellpass half backs came into their own when it really counted. Poor enough standard but Tyrellspass survive, just.
Tomorrow's big game is the Downs and Garrycastle. Kinnegad Mullingar is almost a non event. Lomans championship hopes still on a knife edge. In intermediate, Shandonagh and Miltownpass is huge." Best wishes to James Dolan who suffered serious knee injury at a crucial moment in the game

Some good contests to look forward to this weekend, Saturday in particular with 2 local derbies.
Senior
Athlone v Moate: Huge opportunity for both teams to get to a county semi final, probably won't get a better chance than this year as I would say the format will change next year. Local derby and tough one to call, Moate won when they met in the group but I think Athlone have improved since then. Gonna go for Athlone to win narrowly.
St Lomans v Tubberclair: Actually give Tubberclair a good chance in this. Lomans have been poor this year compared to their usual high standards. Weren't overly impressive in beating Caulry but got the job done. However, they are still unbeaten this year and they are extremely hard to beat in knockout games, in the last 10 years they have only lost 4 games in Westmeath in knockout football. Tubberclair have impressed so far and have a good youthful team but I think they may have too many fires to put out in terms of the match winners Lomans have. Lomans to stumble over the line.
Inter
Shandonagh v Ballinagore: Ballinagore deserve all the credit they get this year, they have been brilliant and fair play to them for getting through to the quarter final. Ennis getting a serious tune out of them and McDaniels being back has been a major help too. I do think this will be a step too far for them as Shandonagh were impressive at the weekend. I think they have the backs to shut down McDaniels and if he isn't firing they will struggle. Shandonagh to win by 10+.
Ballymore v Rosemount: Local derby and expecting this to be tight. Big opportunity for both of these teams, I think Rosemount may just get over the line but wouldn't rule out Ballymore by any means.
