Only link between Provincial and AI is Finalists getting a home game in Round 1 and the occasional TC team getting into Sam by reaching a Provincial Final . Mark McHugh saying last night "the Leinster Final seems so long ago"..... Our glorious victory on 10th of May has probably been forgotten by everyone outside Ros and football areas of Galway. Probably impossible now to go all out for a Provincial and AI in the same season?"
Which completely devalues the provincals & is wrong. It definitely needs to be looked at, how I don't know.

Interesting parallel with Ros being Connacht champs in 2001 and 2026, beating that years allireland champs in the CFC on both occasions.

I think people spend way too long talking about peaking at certain times of the year. The premiership will start in a few weeks time and it will run until next May.
Likewise the rugby will start and it will run until May, again not a word about them peaking too soon or too early.

It seems that way and Andy Moran's comments pre match yesterday that the 5 week break was invaluable for sorting his team out will only serve to further disconnect the championships. It may see more counties who are short of bring genuine AI contenders, like Westmeath this year, targeting and winning provincial championships which is good overall and the big boys will focus less and less on it.

Those tournaments last for 9 months, you obviously cant peak for something that long.

You see teams regularly topping the English premier league at Christmas that aren't at the races come the May run in

Brolly, Spillane, and O'Rourke told us what they really thought about a game, not what RTE wanted them to say!"
They weren't informed comments though and none had a clue what was happening in front of them tactically.

Brolly was tactically aware in fairness.
In any event itd be boring listening to fellas droning on about tactics. If youre interested in strategy you should be able to figure it out for yourself while watching the game. Id rather a good old fashioned argument tbh. More entertaining.

Its all really superficial anyway.. While Mayo were arguably the best team on the day there was still just one kick of a ball between them and Kerry which would have brought extra time. Had Kerry won either at full time or after extra time (which they could easily have) the whole narrative would be completely different and the focus would be on all Mayos wides and how the naive high risk game was always going to lose them an All Ireland final and how Kerry fired on the day that mattered most. Anyone can point to a screen and draw boxes on it after the game and pick the parts that won or lost it and basically state the plane obvious without daring to cause a stair. Post analysis is heading down the same road as soccer with screens.
Fair play to Mayo they seized their opportunity but its much more likely that Kerry will be in the final next year than Mayo.

Well my pre match analysis was that Mayo had to go for it gung ho to have a chance. No matter what Mayo's approach I still thought Kerry would win but if Mayo attempted a tactical conservative approach they had no chance I believe. The approach they took could easily of back fired and it nearly did with Mayo not converting and Kerry hitting them on the counter.
Kerry both in the quarter and semi were very uncomfortable with aggressive tackling from Tyrone and Dublin and Mayo then brought that aggression to another level.
Yes I agree Kerry are the most likely to get to the final again but on the other hand they needed a bit of luck to get there this year.

Yeah the sky analysts ,had they still been around, would have used the latest in cutting edge technology ,screens, arrows etc etc to explain why Mayo are so great and would have been praised for putting the RTE to shame but had Cliffords shot at the end went half a metre to the right and kerry gone on to win the same analysts would have used the same cutting edge technology to explain why Kerry are so great.

Kerry will be seething over that loss and will be very motivated next year but motivation will only get you so far.
Theyre a fine team, but not great by any means, and were very lucky to even get to the final.
Tyrone,Dublin and Donegal ,to name just a few will be strong next year and Kerry have an uphill task imo.

Kerry were outthought and outfought on the day. Leading up to the game some analysts said Kerry don't do complacency before a final but they were such redhot favourites it's hard to believe that subconsciously there was no complacency. Going 7 points up in the first half didn't quell that complacency.

We were second best in shooting efficiency but anyone who saw Andy Moran in his brief enough peak as a forward knew his head didn't drop if he missed chances, he'd go again and again. Anyone who saw us after the Roscommon game could see he was instilling that belief and the keep trying even if you miss scores mantra into our attack. The Kerry fullback line weren't good on the day either. But also our defence had improved with each game starting with our forwards press.

Analysts said that Kerry would have a great platform from kickouts to help them win the game but they couldn't keep enough posession to convert to scores to win the game. Not enough Kerry players had enough gametime this season to keep them in the hunt coming down the stretch, too reliant on the Cliffords. We lost 11 finals because the opposition scored more than us but supporters had more than enough excuses for those defeats. This year we scored more than Kerry because we had less anxiety and fear of losing in the last quarter where we pushed on, encouraged to take risks and not fearful of failure.

Neither of them might be in next year's final. That Kerry team has played in four All Ireland finals in five years winning two and losing two. That's a lot of road for a team. With so many matches now in a compressed championship, are a team better off not winning their province. Only one of the All Ireland semi finalists this year Kerry won their province. I think a lot of counties will reassess after this season. The key is to peak going down the stretch as Kerry did last year and Mayo this year.

You can give that narrative for any big game.
Jim Gavin is regarded as a genius but looks at all those one point wins against Mayo…

Sport at the highest level is a knife edge. The champions write the narrative and take the plaudits. Thank god and at last it's us this time.

I did say give it a week and people will try to find a way to pick holes in our win. Changes nothing though.
