Get out of town Mick. The Tyrone and Kerry teams didn't hear the great Dublin teams of 10"s or 20's in 08 or 09. Was 4 years before Gavin was appointed Dublin manager. Those Dublin teams retired those Tyrone and Jerry teams then continued to pulverise what came next. Dublin were the only team of any era to beat every team of vote over nearly decade, doing something that had never been done in the sport before. Mayo, Kerry, Donegal, Galway , Tyrone, Monaghan, Armagh, Meath, Cork, Derry - who ever multiple times, multiple versions former all Ireland wowed it not. Tire comment is unnecessary, comparatively the vast majority if Kerry's 39 titles came playing 3/4 games All Ireland seasons. Kerry have regressed since the playing field had been even. That fragile situation or huge historical question marks leaves you on very shaky ground, citing the greatest achievement ever achieved in the game, One your on County failed to do on flater road. They will be sick alright. As for driving them on… if the opportunity that presented itself before throw in, and again after 16mins didn't drive them on to do back2back then nothing will. They were out fought and out thought and Mayo were much the better team on the day. I read that JOC was saying yesterday that Mayo got ALL the marginal calls…. That made me laugh tbh. Things came full circle. He might want to stay on, but…… Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 5214 - 28/07/2026 08:37:35 2687695 Link 0 |

It was a brilliant decade of football. Tyrone won 3 in that decade, could have been less , could have been more. Same with Kerry, could definitely have won more and Armagh definitely didn't win enough. This year's championship to me was like the 00s. Brilliant.

A bit revisionist there Mick. That was a super Mayo team in the Dubs 6 in a row era, the current Mayo team have potential but are not as strong now. You reference Tyrone beating Dublin in 08 and 09, like that's 6 years b4 2015, first of 6. For example the 2017 Dubs had, Scully, BB, MDMA, KevinMac, Diarmo, Davey Byrne, Paul Flynn Darren Daly, Cormac Costello "All on the Bench" . sligo joe (Dublin) - Posts: 1161 - 28/07/2026 11:14:27 2687722 Link 2 |

The strength and depth of that squad around 2016-19 was frightening alright. It's a very tricky thing to compare teams of different eras but the 6 in a row squad is for me the greatest team and squad to have played the game. I'm biased of course but we've seen yet again how hard it is to even do back-to-back titles yet those boys did that x 3. And in terms of opposition being weaker or not than the opposition Tyrone faced in the 00s, again all subjective. That Mayo team we faced in 2016 & 17 was immense, the Kerry squad around 2015 had Donaghy, Gooch, JO'D, Geaney, O'Sullivan, Galvin, Marc O'Sé, Sheehan, Tommy Walsh, Moran, Anthony Maher, O'Mahony, Young and I could go on but they were hardly a handy crowd to beat!

My main point Joe is one cant judge different eras so we can only guess. The Mayo team thst rattled Dublin and shoild have beaten them eerr very good but not siper. They eere beaten and struggled ahainst many othrr teamsin that era but did give the Dubs the jitters. IMO the Kerry team in the noughties were much better than the Kerry team in the Dubs 6 era and that Kerry team 2010-2019 were nt too far behind the Dubs either. The only contenders v Dubs in their reign teally was Mayo and Kerry. In the noughties you had a much stronger Kerry team,A top Cork team,a great Armagh team and a super Tyrone team.Cork for example were only beaten by Kerry in the championship ina 6 year period and they beat Kerry twice in Munster and drew 3 times. Kerry won 5 All Irelands but were beaten by Tyrone and deservedly on 3 occasions. I just think that Tyrone team were awesome and played in a better era. Dublin were a super team too and best in their era but we will never know how the games would have transpired between both teams. If I was picking the best 15 between Tyrone and Dublin there would be some headaches. Certainties for Dubs would be Cluxton,McCarthy,Fenton,Connolly, Certainties for Tyrone would be,McMenamin,Conor Gormley,Philly Jordan,KevinHughes,Brian Dooher,Sean Kavanagh,Stephen O Neill,Dooher and of course Peter the Great. Of course thats just my view. CiarraiMick (Dublin) - Posts: 4221 - 28/07/2026 11:53:54 2687739 Link 0 |

Sure was Saynothing. The noughties were so strong though.Cork were a super team that time too but like Armagh underachieved because of Tyrone and Kerry. CiarraiMick (Dublin) - Posts: 4221 - 28/07/2026 11:56:16 2687741 Link 0 |

Kerry flopped full stop, so it might be time to let the star step up as what more has JOC to offer. It will be a one hit wonder for Mayo but they won't care. By the time they stop celebrating and the backshlapping it could be another 75 years. England in the soccer next to crown the misery

Kerry disappointed for sure but not sick. For me it was the easiest loss to take ever and Ive seen Kerry lose alot of finals.Immediately after final whistle my sadness turned to pure joy and elation for Mayo. I have attended many many All Ireland between hurling and football .I would guess over 50 and I never saw losing supporters celebrating with the victors like last Sunday.Kerry fans hugging Mayo fans afterwards was a joy to behold. Im thrilled that it is Kerry that Mayo finally beat to end their 75 year old wait. Its weird to feel so much happiness for another county after a loss but there is a magic to it. There is a fierce strong bond with Mayo and Kerry and statisically have a very high relations through marriage etc. Delighted for Mayo.
