I agree to an extent on the projects, processes, year 1 etc. Teams and managers now are like boring corporations. "Oh yes in year three we will be here"…what? This is sport there is zero guarantee year 3 or 4 will be your year. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 12139 - 20/06/2026 09:01:23 2680664 Link 0 |

Game day! Big performance needed. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ruane start. Safe traveling to all the Meath fans but obviously I hope ye don't enjoy the result. Up Mayo! yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 12139 - 20/06/2026 10:48:55 2680666 Link 1 |

I agree 100% with this. Of course there's a general plan to develop and improve, but nothing is linear in sport and like you said, you need to take your chance when it comes. So many things can change, other teams improve, you get some bad draws, injuries etc. Whereas a few good draws, avoiding injuries, a favourite getting knocked out by someone else and all of a sudden you have a chance you earlier than expected. You're always planning for the future, but the focus should always be on trying to achieve in the here an now. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2903 - 20/06/2026 10:55:44 2680667 Link 1 |

Jonb done for Mayo won a winnable game tonight with a good 2nd half performance after poor 2nd half performances in pervious gamws Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 4010 - 20/06/2026 20:29:24 2680749 Link 0 |

The auld sending off had nothing to do with it I guess. Would have been bet off the park were it not for it. And a fan remestrating with Robbie Brennan after the game isn't a good look. Square_B (Leitrim) - Posts: 2116 - 20/06/2026 23:38:25 2680787 Link 0 |

Comiserations to Meath and their supporters. Not so classy from some of our supporters booing Meath when they ran on to the pitch. We rode our luck at times but kept plugging away when things were against us. Saw the red card last night and looked a yellow card at worst but we were building a bit of momentum at that stage. It was still a big turning point No point in hoping for the handiest quarter final draw, yesterday's performance won't be enough. Need confidence to go and beat any team now. We need a 70 minute performance if we have it. After 3 years of an over-reliance on Ryan to get us results we're slowly getting a team that doesn't pick itself. Diarmuid O'Connor was brilliant when he came in for Paddy. Pinned back the ears and rolled back the years. Tommy Conroy very good getting some sharpness back. Mattie Ruane in contention for a spot. Some good switches made yesterday. Not sure that the longer intensive warmup on such a hot day didn't contribute to the slow start but we'll march on. Was it not a sending off? In 2009 Meath got a line ball that was actually a Mayo line ball and they went up the field got a penalty. Fan at the end is an idiot and should be banned. My own personal view is fans shouldn't be on the pitch anyway. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 12139 - 21/06/2026 09:14:01 2680815 Link 0 |

Team I'd like to see in the next round Livinstone (brilliant again, but needs more protection from defence) D McHugh McBrien McGrael Callanan Loftus ( understands cb position and needed there as teams are running through the centre) looks more comfortable at 6 Hession Ruane/D o'C Tuohy Carney O'Donoghue Flynn Beirne (hopefully fit) if not McHale Conroy (Brilliant when he came on, shooting confidence is back) McDonald Probably a bit hard dropping Coyne, but the defence needs sorting out. Can't keep relying on JL to be kept in games, more clinical teams will score goals, 1951andwaiting (Galway) - Posts: 103 - 21/06/2026 12:50:14 2680839 Link 0 |

Not a hope will they put Loftus back to 6 again. Could maybe try Callinan there if they want to change things up but more than likely it'll be the same again next weekend. MayoDan (Mayo) - Posts: 564 - 21/06/2026 13:11:03 2680843 Link 0 |

Aye throw Loftus in at 6 that'll work. Seriously ? McBrien is by far the best 6 we have. It isn't a centre back problem it's the overall defensive set up. In the first half Carney, Flynn and Tuohy were very very poor and that's where the problems started. TheFlaker (Mayo) - Posts: 8871 - 21/06/2026 13:27:52 2680845 Link 1 |

The big question hanging over Mayo is simply this , Can we put 2 halves of football together? cluichethar (Mayo) - Posts: 621 - 21/06/2026 19:23:55 2680963 Link 0 |

Loftus called into the squad on the back of displays at 6 for his club, then he's moved to 11 for the county, !!!!!!!!! If he's not good enough for 6, then leave him on the bench .... don't try and find a place for him elsewhere, carney, flynn and tuohy must be poor in every match because every team runs through us !!!
