To Move Club Or Not!

(Oldest Posts First)

Probably a discussion for some of the older members here!

So when I got married, I moved to a place about 10km from where I grew up. I continued to play for my old club until I retired. Then the kids arrived, went to the local school and joined and play with the local club. I help out and eventually joined the new club as a non playing member through the family membership.

Now, I see some other parents who also are 'blowins' who bring their kids to their old club and basically never leave it. Eventually you have generations of kids playing for a different club than the locality they live in!

Now I get the whole GAA club ethos but is this not pushing it a bit?! Would love to hear opinions on it!

Kids should play with their friends. It is not a decision for their parents.

Personally it's very important to me that my son and daughter play where I played regardless of where we live. It's very much a part of our lives. My own club would have seen a lot of great people move elsewhere and become key people with their new clubs which I am quite bitter about to be honest.

Two of the three clubs closest to us have won senior championships in the last few years which is very much at our expense.

Let the kids decide….it's their local area and their friends.
