As I said 2 months ago objective 1 was to win Leinster and go straight through to All Ireland Semi Final and then see where this journey brings us. 4 weeks off to get squad fit and prepped for the semi final. All the pressure is on Cork desperately trying to win a All Ireland. What does 'falling flat of their faces' mean? That Galway Clare match played out fairly closely with my expectations, having seen a few of the performances of those two sides all season. If a performance aligns with expectations, even if the result is bad, does that then qualify for the 'flat of faces' cliché tag? That Clare team came through a tough Munster campaign on the back of winning a Minor some years ago. Galway on the other hand were beaten in a Minor final where they conceded heavily and again they did the same at U20 level. They just did not have the defensive players at that age. Our senior team is similar as highlighted once Daithi went off the field last Saturday. If the defence can be tightened up and Daithi is injury free Galway have a serious chance with any opposition. Could say that about a lot of counties, Dublin especially. Galway have been very competitive in all matches this year, their opening round loss by 5 to Tipperary was their heaviest defeat this year. What is Rory Burkes injury? How serious etc? Is it a reoccurrence of the same injury or new one? Very important player for us. I think it is all there for this team. Our efficiency against Dublin was really good as opposed to other games where we have been putting everything wide. We may well lose the semi final but there is no reason to think it is a foregone conclusion. If we lose the other team will know they had a serious test. This group of lads have something about them. I cant really speak on individual players but the round robin in Munster is very competitive in general. It battle hardens teams and players. The games are pretty intense and it stands to the teams coming down the stretch. Limerick started munster very poorly but have improved steadily with every game. That minor team was losing by 12 points to Kilkenny and came back to draw and then win in extra time. A freakish kind of result. Imo the level of real ability in the team was best measured by the nature of their performance for the greater part of that game that produced that 12 point deficit. I dont think inflated egos had anything to do with it. Underage hurling in Munster is clearly of a higher standard than Leinster at the moment. There's a massive difference at u21 level/ u20 level for the last 15 years or so. It was like as if every Munster county eventually lifted their preparation, and consequent performance in this grade, by light years in those 15 years, while Galway and KK just continued to operate in the same vein, and found themselves outclassed in the grade, in turn by Clare,Waterford, Limerick, Cork, Tipp, with ever increasing regularity and predictability in the timespan 2011-2026. That trend also explains why Limerick and Cork are now the two best senior squads in the country, and why Clare and Tipp had the quality to win the last two senior allireland titles.
